June 14, 20233 yr Author Thanks everyone! I was quite happy. I haven't had it that low in years and years!
June 15, 20233 yr Author I got my blood test results back today and my blood sugar and cholesterol have come down a lot too!! 😁I really believe it's from quitting smoking and doing my walking!! I'm still prediabetic, but at the lower end. My A1C is 5.8 and normal is 5.6 so hopefully the next time I have my blood tested, it will be below 5.6. Edited June 15, 20233 yr by Sandi149

June 16, 20233 yr Author Thank you everyone!!! I am quite excited. When my docs office called this morning and I saw them on my caller ID, I got very nervous, but when she told me all the good news, I was totally ecstatic. Today was a very good day!!😁 @robin0212 and @LeapOfFaith the two of you can do this, hands down!!! Believe me, if I can quit, you can as well!! I am a big baby with no willpower, so I guess I'm doing something right and you can too!!!😁

Today I actually held off the first cigarette for 3 1/2 hours. Tomorrow I am planning on pushing it longer. I really think I need to use NRT.

We all do what's good for us. It's like, we are all going to the same place, but each of us use different methods, which is perfectly fine! Whatever works for you...and as I said, in the long run we are all going to the same place!😁

June 18, 20233 yr Author Hi everyone! Today is a little bit of a challenge because of Father's Day. My husband and I have our 2 sons over and my mom and a family friend. We have been having snacks and drinks before dinner, so the urge comes when I drink. I know you all say not to drink when quitting, but it hasn't been that bad, and now that I'm almost quit a month, it has gotten better. I think for me the worst time for the urges is in the morning when I'm having my coffee. But, all these urges don't last that long. They certainly come and go...thankfully!! Anyway, for all you guys that are dads, Happy Father's Day!!😁
June 19, 20233 yr The associations do take a while to break… for a lot of people it’s coffee and drinking or socializing. For me it’s writing, sitting on my back porch, and any time I am angry. Early in your quit, do what you can to minimize/avoid trigger situations and surround yourself with positive reinforcement. I found “suffering in silence” to make triggers worse... like keeping the feelings internalized somehow allowed them to loom really large in my head. So it’s good that you shared what you were going through here on the forum. Saying aloud, “Cravings, you’re bugging the s—t outa me! Begone!” also helped from time to time. (It’s hard to take anything too seriously when you shout “Begone!” at it!) I also sometimes tossed in an extra “NOPE” post… there’s no daily limit!
June 22, 20233 yr Author HI folks, I have a question. Did any of you ever get something called "smoker's flu" and if you did, when in your quit did you get it? This week it felt like I had a cold/flu. All I had was a sore throat for about 3 days and a little bit of a cough, in addition to feeling very tired and achy, but today it's pretty much all gone. Just very weird as I never had a cold like this. So I'm wondering could that have been the "smoker's flu", even though I'm quit for a month, shouldn't it happen after the first few days after quitting? Ohhh a month quit!! Yay!!!😁😁
June 22, 20233 yr @Sandi149, I recently had something like you did for a few days so I don't think you have quitters flu at this stage in your quit. I know its easy to think everything going on is because of quitting but in reality its because of smoking. And sometimes it's neither.... I'm glad you're feeling better already 😊

At least it didn't last very long.

Lung shock! agree- I doubt that after a month you would have those symptoms related to quitting.

The only symptoms I have had are your basic withdrawal/cravings but they are almost gone now after a month. How are you doing?

You are doing great Robin!!! I know it's tiring. I don't want to pry, but do you work or are you retired? I'm retired but I have a husband who works and I have two grown sons, one who is gonna be 35 in a couple of months who lives on his own, and the other one who just turned 30 in April and still lives with us, so I still have a lot to do around here. If you have young kids, and I remember when my kids were young, we were always busy, so that would be an easy time to quit. Actually no matter if you are young, middle aged, retired, senior citizen or a hundred years old, quitting smoking is not easy!!! It's an addiction and at any age the addiction is hard!! You are doing great!!!🥰😁👍

June 23, 20233 yr Congrats on your week, Robin! I agree with Sandi that quitting is hard work. But worth it!
June 23, 20233 yr Congratulations @robin0212! Hell Week completed! 🙌 I hope that you can get some energy soon! It’s miserable when you are feeling so blah. You are doing great!
