Live video of the Frying Pan Tower ocean cam 34 miles off the southern NC coast.  Pretty powerful stuff during a hurricane like this one.

(This video might be worth checking out tomorrow afternoon as Dorian approaches.  I just went back and viewed it tonight and obviously you will not be able to see anything in this video when it is dark.)

More info on the Frying Pan Tower here.

My niece and her family moved to Wilmington, NC last year and one month after moving in had to endure Hurricane Florence...now a year later ...Hurricane Dorian! Hope they are as lucky as last year and this one moves out to sea.....

Haven't been able to contact my friend Ralph who's in Harbor Island, about 100 km south-east of Great Abaco which got a direct hit before Grand Bahama Island got hammered. Hoping it's just an interruption in cell service 🙏

How are you doing @johnny5 ?  Are your peeps OK ?

Looks like you're in for an evening of Nature. Be safe.

So far, things are ok for me.  It isn't too bad here.  Some wind gusts but, for the most part, just some heavy rain.

Last I heard, my friends and family in the coastal area of NC are ok.

Thanks for asking.  I appreciate it.

cool @johnny5.  Some major estuaries coming up after you, lots of surge action.

Then, The Maritimes  to see @reciprocity's mum ?  What a hellatious storm.

Eye of Dorian making landfall in the US now.

Outer Banks of N.C. are in for a rough time I expect. Hope all evacuated that area.

For you weather Nerds (:)) another cool site to check out. I use it for checking wind speed/direction and wave height before going fishing on the great lakes but it has all kinds of functionality.

Environment Canada Forecast - Hurricane Dorian:

“Heavy rains, strong winds and potentially even some snow being generated at higher elevation areas in extreme eastern Quebec and southern Labrador (are) possible with this hurricane.”

Only in Canada would you get snow mixed in with a Cat. 1 hurricane 😮

It made landfall on Cape Hatteras .

I can't seem to post graphics this morning from my end.

Will figure it out and return.

I'm fine.  The people I know near Wilmington didn't even lose power which is quite surprising.

There were a lot of tornadoes in eastern NC and flooding on the Outer Banks but I think everyone I know towards the coast is fine.  The weather here in Raleigh wasn't too bad.
