  10. I feel for you Cher... I have had hives a few times..It seems i am allergic to tetanus! As you know, working around old cars (rust!) tetanus is pretty common..well..about 20 (or more) years ago I had my first reaction to it...hives...and I thought i was going to go crazy!..anywhere that i got "warm"...around my belt...under my wallet...my under arms etc..i broke out in huge red welts...oh..and they ITCHED!!! Mine were pretty simple to treat though..a few doses of benadryl and i was good to go....the bad news was..a few years later...a new cut..and time for another tetanus shot..no alternative...so..i got the shot and had to deal with the hives again... maybe you are allergic to the snow and will have to travel to Az. for the winter ;)
  11. It sounds like you are still doing OK Evelyn...I hope so.. When you started this LAST quit...I could tell by the way you seem to be approaching this, that this IS your final quit... Sometimes you can just tell that someone "HAS" it...you seem to have it this time...i know there will be bumps in the road, but I believe you will get through them.. you are doing the right thing by posting here...any time things seem overwhelming...send out the SOS...thats what it is for..and as long as you realize that you are reaching out for help...you have to also realize its up to you to accept it... just get through the hard moments, and you will have less and less of them... i think you also know that on some level you know Bakon is right ...the whole "trick" to stop smoking, is to stop nicotine..THAT is what your body wants, and doesn't care how it gets it...that's why when you are not giving it the gum (thats loaded with nicotine), it is telling you to smoke then to get it.....I understand everyone's quit is different..at least HOW we quit is different...in the end..we are all the same...we have QUIT NICOTINE..in every form....so...with that said (and I hope it doesn't sound like a scolding..i tend to come off that way but dont mean to..)...you are just going to have to "bite the bullet" soon and come to the realization that you CAN QUIT NOW!...everything... When-ever you are ready to take that step, dont be afraid...we have all done it...none of us have become sick or died because of it, but we have had help from others on here (and in "real" life)..and..i can assure you..you will get all the support from us that we can give..its up to you to take that step...it will be up to us to carry you when you feel like you are slipping.. Just remember...its your MIND telling you that quitting is hard ..your body will do whatever your mind tells it to do.....you have control over those thoughts..when you feel you are ready to completely quit ....push the negative thoughts aside, and think about the positive ones...I am sure you have already noticed some things that are great now that you dont smoke..one of the biggest things i noticed, is I no longer have to go outside around the corner and "hide" while I smoke.. You may look at a smoker and wish you could smoke too...but the reality of it is..that smoker is looking at YOU and admiring the fact that you are strong enough NOT TO SMOKE!! I have yet to come across even one person who smokes that doesn't wish that they would quit...your just 1 step away from being a "fore-ever" quitter...you know you have gone through some of the hardest parts that are involved in quitting...and..you will still have a few hard things to overcome...but you are closer to quitting than you think...you just have to keep going forward..dont look back..behind you is NOT what you want...the prize is in front of you.. we have faith in you...YOU need to have faith in you...you got this!!

1 glad i was able to be the one that allowed you to get your "O" in this morning ;)
  13. No need to be confused Gem...It started in the states..with the Friday after Thanksgiving being the biggest shopping day of the year (because most of us have Thursday AND Friday off work) that is the day that (if sales are down)a lot of retailers end up in the RED...or if things go well (and sales are up)...they end up in the BLACK!!.....BLACK FRIDAY.. To try and get more and more shoppers into their stores, retailers (heavily) discount a couple "key" items....and another factor is they must open before the competition so year after year stores would open at ridiculous hours 4am..then 3am...and its to the point now, they remain open all night and have something different on sale every hour...Its madness! from a non-shopping male perspective...I think that because of it, our Thanksgiving is a thing of the past...all that Thursday is now, is the day that you get ready to go out and spend all night shopping....literally...some of my relation has "scaled" down Thanksgiving so that they can get a little nap and be prepared for the nights adventure.. the saving may be good...but for me, not THAT good...i will sit at home and at my leisure, buy a few things when-ever I think about it..on other days..when me and my wife happen to have the same day off..we will go out to a mall and do some shopping for our granddaughters...all in all...i get everything bought that we planned on, and in reality i dont think anyone saved enough more than I did to warrant that kind of craziness on black Friday. As much as i dislike shopping...and the whole Black Friday thing...I have to say...from the retailers point..it DOES make a difference... My youngest daughter is manager of a women's clothing store in a nice mall....and she actually looks forward to the madness!..She has been working 18 hr days for the week leading up to BF..and will continue to work way too many hours a week up until Christmas.. I guess different strokes....lol... wow..did i just turn this into a rant/...lol..I didnt mean to....I just prefer to NOT be part of the madness :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
