Still plodding along. I do feel different this time to the failed times from before. I can't even remember if this quit has been NRT free at the beginning. I think it has, my memory not so good. Just checked my quit tracker and it's 4m 3w 3d. On previous quits I was romanticising having one, this time around I'm remembering the way they made me feel, the anxiety mostly. It used to cripple me. I felt terrible off smoking, I'm remembering them days. I haven't had an urge.to have a ciggie at all which is so different to the other quits. It just feels different all around. Feels great to be honest. *Just checked through previous posts, came off the lozenges late November. Best thing I did with the good advice of people off here. Thanks people.
  8. NOPE not today Not Ever 🐸
  9. Yes, you can start posting in the Quit Smoking Discussions section. There is also a games section to help you keep your mind off of smoking, it's a lot of fun, especially the Chicks and Sticks game!😁
  10. DenaliBlues, love it "Cravings are mere commercials for junk you don’t wanna buy any more". Cbdave, Agreed, 100% "just one you will be right back where you started" and is the voice that comes out when wanting to burn one. Right now I am laughing at my self. A week or so ago, I hunted down my wife's smokes while she was long in bed. Took one out and was smelling it like a kid over candy. That cigarette smelled just like the day I started smoking back when I was a kid. The first thing that came to mind was a talk with self "Keith, you know as well as I, that one smoke will muck you up and everything you've worked for so far will be out the window". That said, I put it back in her pack and said to self: These are just thoughts, not cravings and again, is something I tell myself every time those instances arise. SD2026, Isn't it funny how we addicts can so quickly throw a playbook in the mind and throw that rational thinking out the window, just to figure out a way to have that one smoke? That has happened to me more times than I can count. And is where I stand tall and tell self "Keith, don't let one smoke kick your ... like that, you are much stronger". Happy you may have a new mantra to throw in your back pocket. Finally, as this is the Introductions board. I feel I should stop replying/posting here, thoughts? Make it a great day everyone!
  11. Gday If you have just one you will be right back where you started, and where you started was desperately wishing you were where you are right now. - Marvitta an oldy but a goody
  12. ^^^ This! Oh yes. Because Addict Mind will spin all kinds of rationale to justify smoking again. But it’s just a trap. Because 1 is too many and 1000 is not nearly enough, right? It’s worth grinding through, because getting that monkey off your back forever is PRICELESS! In the meantime, let those cravings float by. Stay busy and distracted. Cravings are mere commercials for junk you don’t wanna buy any more. Change the proverbial channel!
  13. Thank you for the responses! SD2026, the last time I seriously quit smoking was within a physical support group sponsored through my Health Insurance where we all met once a week on Saturday's. Meeting together as a group we discussed our successes, trials and tribulations and that was a big help. In today's world, I find it very hard to find anything similar to that type of support group in a physical setting. Thank you for the invitation and recommending the different thread types found here. Temptation of having cigarettes in the home? Maybe I am just different or maybe others can relate? I look at cigarettes in the home as a security blanket. When there are no cigarettes to be had, it seems I need to go buy a pack not to be completely out. When they are there, it is a choice not to smoke. I know, seems counter productive but is what it is. DenaliBlues, not sure if I should post this here or perhaps a different thread? Anyway, here goes: What are my motivations for quitting? As a smoker for 48 years, the health effects are rearing their heads. Wheezing when laying horizontally, issues with my limbs (blaming it on poor oxygen circulation from smoking), etc. Craving management? I know from past experiences, it only takes one smoke to upset the entire apple cart. I've been quit now for 8 weeks and the first five were hell. From severe cravings, coughing 24/7, extracting the flu, sinus/ear infections (Running through head, man, quitting smoking shouldn't be this way). Knowing after 8 weeks nicotine has been long expelled from the body. These cravings I feel are not from nicotine withdrawal as that nicotine is long gone. I tell myself that these cravings are thoughts and these thoughts will probably come and go for the rest of my life so change them. This is my current craving management. Thank you, Doreensfree for that advise on the posts and boards. It looks like I have much traveling to do across this site. My wife does keep her distance when she smokes. Actually, we haven't smoked in the house since the fist kid was born and now are empty nesters. The problem is I know where she hides her smokes and if I didn't? And wanted one bad enough, I would find them. I feel everyone could agree with me there LOL. She is right behind me in regards to quitting and says she is looking at me as a role model. She said the other day, if I can quit, anyone can. Yes, I will be sticking close to this board as time allows. Thank you Reciprocity, this is exactly the board I was looking for. I feel I got lucky by deciding to choosing this board to sign up with. Thank you QuittingGirl, and agree with you 100% a support system is by far one of the greatest tools for success in quitting smoking. Pulling this journey alone I feel is dangerous. We all know the lies we will tell ourselves just to have that one smoke. Make it a great day everyone!

  21. Sorry for not replying sooner @DenaliBlues, I just saw this now. So very sorry about the passing of your cat Herry. It certainly is heartbreaking and I know for sure how you feel. 😢 I had a cat many years ago who passed so I know how sad it is. 💔 Your heart will heal but it does take time. Cats and dogs are part of our family so it's certainly not easy.

Yes! Good for both of you!! Recognizing those milestones as you extend your quit status is important. Celebrate & treat yourself 🎉 Focusing on positives early in your quit will help you transition your daily life from smoker to non-smoker without regret. You are NO LONGER a smoker and besides; those cigs never did anything positive for you

  25. I am not going to smoke today. NOPE.
  26. I'm so sorry you've lost Herry 😢 He was a handsome boy and know that you gave him the best life he could have @DenaliBlues They really do eave their paw prints on our hearts 💔
  27. So very sorry to read this, DenaliBlues. But you saved him and took good care of him for the rest of his life! Herry will be missed.😪
  28. How beautiful that you found Holly and took her in! ❤️
  29. That's lovely @DenaliBlues❤️ We have a girl now that we rescued from our backyard many years ago. It was just after Christmas and the weather was frightfully cold that year; -30's at night. She was also abused we suspect because she absolutely terrified of people. We actually had to live-trap her. We named her Holly because it was just after Christmas when we took her in. She still has a dark spot on her nose due to frostbite. Fortunately it doesn't affect her at all. She's getting up there in age now too. I dread the day we lose her 🙁
  30. Indeed, he enjoyed a wonderful life @Reciprocity. He was dumped in a state park that we were visiting. He sought us out one rainy, stormy night. He was skinny, bloody, trembling, and covered in motor oil. We could see right away that he was special. We took him home, and for the rest of his life, he got all the food, play, naps in the sunshine, and snuggles that his heart desired. And he gave us so much back in return. I’m devastated. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.
  31. Sorry to hear this @DenaliBlues😢 We've lost a couple over the years and it's always been a tough time. A positive take away, other than cherishing the love he filled your heart with, is knowing you gave Herry the best life possible🫂
  32. We said goodbye to our beloved old man Herry this week. It’s hard to imagine life without his weight on my lap, his prodigious purrs, his punching me in the face at 6 am, his eating with his hands, his happy drools. My heart is shattered into 100 pieces. Our younger cat keeps wandering from room to room, looking for him. I’m so grateful that Herry found us and became part of our family. Be at ease, angel baby.
