October 28, 201411 yr This is crazy!! For the past week or so I have tried and tried to find an excuse to smoke. Any excuse would have worked. But guess what? There is NO excuse or valid reason to ever smoke again! I imagined so many scenarios! From petty things like: Would I smoke if the hubby and I had a huge disagreement? What if my mother-in-law pi**ed me off? If my day at work got stressful? Then there were the huge “I’d smoke if that happened to me” moments: I’d have to have a cigarette if a loved one became ill – or if I became ill.Or a cigarette would be the only thing that would get me through a death in the family. What if the sky falls??NOPE NOPE NOPENone of these are valid reasons to smoke because there is no reason to smoke! My non-smoking brain tells me this- but still the junkie thinking will come around and try to steer me off coarse.I don’t care if my ass falls off; I won’t smoke!Thankfully, since quitting, I’m not near as impulsive as I once was and was able to halt the junkie thinking. Coming here to read and take the pledge daily is huge.I also took another long look at my reasons for quitting and also all the benefits I’ve experienced since quitting. Don’t know what to think of this past weeks’ craziness. No man’s land? Romancing the cigarette?Whatever it is – It can f* off!!I’m a non-smoker and intend to remain one
October 28, 201411 yr Tough times. Well done - you are dealing with it exactly right. It will pass very soon. You are doing great!
October 28, 201411 yr Sandy whatever it is it sounds like you have a handle on it! Nope an f off :) It might be due to coming into dark winter and a whole different type of triggers ahead but what ever it is use the nope and f off button and you will be fine well done for your post x
October 28, 201411 yr Awww sweetie this is the tough bit, the rinse and repeat of quitting. It will pass, just nicodemon trying to catch you out. Don't listen and do what you're doing. X
October 28, 201411 yr You have a strong quit, Sandy, where your junkie thoughts are recognized and dismissed. Isn't it great to take control ! Powerful woman, that Sandy ! Don't despair, those thoughts. They are useful reminders for N O P E and get dimmer and quiet in short time, N O P E pfffttt... begone !!! :D Love, S

October 28, 201411 yr Wow Sandy. I am sorry that the nicodemon is giving you a go. It really sucks that after 3+ months the thoughts still hit and try to get you back. I personally re-watch all of the documentaries when things start getting hard because they infuriate me.
October 28, 201411 yr Sandy, well said! You are absolutely right....there is no reason good enough to ever light up a cigarette ever again. There are millions of people out there who deal and handle all types of scenarios without smoking a cigarette. Now you (and I and all the rest here) are one of "those" people too! Stay strong in your resolve. That's all it takes.
October 28, 201411 yr As mentioned, I have spent some time thinking about this. The most helpful thing I tell myself is that I know I am not smoking today. Why worry about the future?
October 28, 201411 yr Author Off to walk my dogs. The smoking thoughts are getting dimmer...Not that I would, but difficult to smoke with a dog leash in each hand anyway
October 28, 201411 yr Oh Sandy, don't those feelings just suck? I can see what a strong person you are, and it's good that you are seeing these craves for what they are! You are doing great, and eventually these feelings will go away again. In the meantime, your family is here for you :)
October 28, 201411 yr I feel like this happens to me quite often! But I totally agree... THERE IS NO REASON TO SMOKE, just like there was no reason to start smoking in the first place. You are so strong, and this post even gave me more inspiration to tell the daemon to F right off! :) Way to go Sandy! Blessed be S

October 29, 201411 yr Off to walk my dogs. The smoking thoughts are getting dimmer...Not that I would, but difficult to smoke with a dog leash in each hand anyway  Sandy - sorry I am late but glad you are soldiering on - if the leashes don't work - can I suggest boxing ? Damn near impossible to light up when you are wearing boxing gloves Seriously though - your quit to date is awesome but when you think of how long you smoked - it is still relatively new - so it is natural to still have craves - acknowledge them and then move on - you can do this! Also please stay close to the board - the support here will really help you to get through this ! I still remember posting when I was about 3 months in - and The responses I received really helped me to,recognise how rubbish my thoughts were - and helped me recommit to my quit ! Love ya - and know you will stay strong KTQ xx
October 29, 201411 yr Sandy you have such a strong quit going, I'm feeling emotionally proud, it's finally clicked with you, this is your forever quit, You are right there is no reason at all to smoke x Ps look at your ticker you are flying along, over 3 months allready, happy days xxx
October 29, 201411 yr Hi sandy....we have now learned ,there is no excuse...to smoke and kill,ourselves..... We know too much now....smoking would never be the same..... We smoked a long time...our bodies have to adjust.... You are doing wonderful....you have a great quit ...... Smoking sucks..... Hugs xxxx
October 29, 201411 yr Author I don't know what I'd do without the support I receive from all of you! Sure opens my eyes to the reality that no, I'm no different than any other nicotine addict. If all of you can quit, so can I. Thanks! :)
