During the Winter months, she is meticulous about keeping the house clean. Once Spring rolls around, she'll get back out in the garden. Mom also enjoys a bit of light yard work. 21 hours ago, jillar said: So glad to hear she's doing so well that she realizes how crappy daytime tv is lol. She turned the TV off and is doing a lot of reading now. Special shout out to my sister who taught mom how to use a Kindle to download and read new books. It takes the patience of a saint to teach mom and dad about new technologies.

Mentally, she's still sorting some things out. She recognizes that she was hallucinating, but the hallucinations were so strong she's still in the process of sorting out what actually happened versus what she thought was happening. Mom is in good spirits. She has even had a few laughs about some of the things she thought and said during that period. Mom gave my nephew a good scare when she kept asking about the new baby and telling people he's a father now. The boy is 22 years-old and enjoying being single.
February 12, 20215 yr Good news Boo.... Wow !!!The mind is a funny complicated thing ... Bet your nephew came out in a cold sweat lol....❤️🐸
February 12, 20215 yr Yay boo, that's awesome news 😊 Our minds are such amazing and mysterious things. My mom hallucinated when her UTI got severe (almost yearly) and each time we'd have to ask the Dr to test her for it because at her age they were looking for things like stroke, dementia etc. and sure enough it was an UTI!
March 1, 20215 yr Author Mom and Dad went out for a Sunday drive yesterday and came up to the house for a visit. Mom's health has been improving steadily and now we can say she is back to normal. Her mind is clear now and she's as sharp as ever. She's even back to reminding dad of people's names when he tries to tell a story. He makes a lot of references to "ol' WhatsHisFace" and "WhosHerName." The two of them together can fill in the blanks for each other.
March 1, 20215 yr That's fantastic @Boo, now tuck this away in case it happens in the future you'll know what to ask the drs to check for!
March 1, 20215 yr Aww !!!...This is great news Boo... What a relief .... Thank you for keeping us updated.... Sending my Regards ❤️
March 1, 20215 yr Glad to hear that your mother is doing better Boo. Given that, maybe I shouldn't mention my experience? If you don't want to read bad news, stop reading now. My dear aunt, who died of covid this past December, had Alzheimer's. Although we had noticed her slowly getting a little more forgetful over the years, her first major symptom was hallucinations. This was in 2015. She said that people were in her house one night. She was so convincing that I actually believed her. I told her that she should call the police if someone comes into her house without her letting them in. Well, she did call the police a couple of times and they found no sign of entry whatsoever. The police asked her to give them the phone number of somebody that she trusted and she gave them my parents' phone number. The police started calling my parents when my aunt would call them. My mom, my aunt's younger sister, was getting really stressed out over this and constantly buzzing in my ear. I talked to my aunt and told her not to call the police anymore and to call me when she had visitors, any time, day or night, not to worry that she would wake me up. In time, the hallucinations did stop and things seemed to get somewhat back to normal. The following year, my parents passed away and she did not deal with this well at all. Shortly thereafter, she started saying that her older brother was always at her house and was stealing things from her. I knew that this was not possible because he also had Alzheimer's and was in a memory care facility. Every time I needed to find something at her house, she would tell me that her brother took it. Other than blaming every problem on her brother, she was still able to function. Toward the end of 2016. she didn't seem to want to cook anymore and so we set her up with meals on wheels for lunch and my sister started bringing her her dinners. At this time I took over doing all of her paperwork becauce occasionally a bill wouldn't get paid. I also did house cleaning and made her take a bath during my visits. This was our setup for three years. Then something happened over Memorial Day weekend in 2019. I'm not going to go into the details but suffice it to say that she declined quite dramatically. It was clear that someone needed to be there every day. I hired someone, a friend of mine, to go to her house on the days that my sister and I were not there. One of her neighbors, who was a retired nurse, also checked on her every day. My friend ended up quitting so I set something up with a home care business. This is when things got really bad because my aunt did not like strangers in her house. She would not listen to them and I also think that the workers were not doing everything that they were supposed to be doing. My aunt ended up taking two falls, both with trips to the ER, the second of which landed her in the hospital. It was at this time that my sister and I regretfully came to the conclusion that she could no longer stay in her house. She had to go to rehab after her hospital stay and during this time, we made arrangements for her to go to a memory care facility. She went there at the end of July 2019. At first, she didn't do well there and took another bad fall, this time breaking her shoulder. After a while, she thought that the facility was her home, and would yell at the other residents to go home because she wanted to go to sleep. Beginning in March 2020, we were no longer allowed to visit in person but were able to do Skype visits. Over time, it seemed like her mind was actually doing a little bit better. She always recognized me and my sister. Once in a while, she would call me my mother's name. She believed that my mother and father were still alive. Sometimes she thought her parents were still alive even though she herself was 91 years old. I didn't get to see how this would ultimately play out because, just a week or so before she was scheduled to get the vaccine, she got covid and died. For you and your family's sake, Boo, I hope that your mother does not have Alzheimer's. It's a terribly heartbreaking thing to go through...
March 1, 20215 yr Sorry you had to go through all that @Mona, its really a sad disease for all involved 😢
March 2, 20215 yr Glad your mother is back to normal Boo. I can relate to your story as well Mona. My MIL died a few years back of Alzheimer's. Terrible disease that starts out innocently enough with a few forgetful moments and marches relentless onward, slowly changing that person into someone completely unfamiliar all that knew them. I can't think of another disease that affects the entire family as drastically as Alzheimer's does.
March 2, 20215 yr Author Sorry to hear about your aunt Mona.
