  1. I'm one of those people that do not like to quit things that are bad for me. It helps to know this because then I can force myself to do things that I know will help me even though I may not want to do them at the time. Quitting smoking – I've had reservations about this. So things that can help cement my Initial decision:
  2. In the middle of house construction --I will not smoke today.

  6. I still don't like "fat chick" references. . .
  7. Season 3 here. . .
  8. I found these videos extremely helpful the first two weeks of my quit. Daily Quitting Lesson Guide Link to YouTube Featured Playlists for all of Joel Spitzer's Stop Smoking Videos I watched these like crazy, educating myself on the nature of addiction, how nicotine works on the body, and how deep breathing can help alleviate the cravings. Read, read, read, also, al the links/articles in the Newbie package and post lots of whiny, silly posts. Seriously. Everyone does. And you'll feel better. Make sure and for real, post an "SOS" when you get one of those "I have to SMOKE" cravings. Wait. Wait. Wait. People will answer you. Just hang on to the side of your monitor with clenched hands, and wait for your help. The Blood Sugar goes haywire the first 72 hours of withdrawal from nicotine. So, drink fruit juice regularly. Cranberry is great, but any juice, really. Hummus is my friend. Hummus. A weird dip made from something healthy. I use this and lots of vegetables that, when slathered with hummus, tastes good. And, I have only gained 2 pounds in 5 weeks of my quit. So far. lol. Ice Water and tick tacs, they help. And, most of all; WALK. Post and SOS, wait for the help, then walk. Anywhere. It helps tremendously. Make sure you get back to your people on the forum when you get back from your walk. They are waiting to hear from you. They worry. lol. That's worked for me, anyway,
  9. So, I decided to "follow" this forum so that I will get an email when someone posts an SOS. I check email a lot-part of my job.
  10. Ava Gardner was the most beautiful woman in the world. It's a great name. I always wanted to be Natasha.

Rofl. We bash other 12 step programs when we hang out at Shoneys after an NA meeting. Never mind. I understand.

    Yeah, possibly me too. lol!
  13. I vaped for about 5 months or so, attempting to replace the cigarettes with the ecigs. I think I might have been satisfied if I could have done that, too. But, I couldn't. I ended up using the ecigs plus smoking, so just added to my nicotine intake. Too, vaping is being regulated almost as badly as tobacco; few places will allow you to vape if smoking is also banned, so socially, ecigs weren't much better than smoking cigs. Turns out that the addiction is really an addiction; go figure. That's for me, anyway. I know people who have used ecigs as a replacement for smoking. They seem happy enough with it. I just couldn't. I don't like feeling "trapped" by having to use anything, when it comes right down to it.

Ok. So 2 threads? locked. Babs, secret forums are for what? This is one of the biggest reasons I left quitsmoke. Discussions like this do NOT belong in the main forum to dilute the goal of helping others (and myself) to remain quit. But, if we can't be free to say whatever we frigging want in here, then I'm not getting too comfy.
  15. Very glad to hear that. Pleasant dreams. . .
  16. I do not have IBS. However. Ditto. Same problem. Broccoli. Geez. Yeah, have been eating a lot of that. And cumcumbers. and celery and a million other things that I don't normally eat because I'm too busy smoking. lol! I've read flatulence (wow, what a great word) is a common problem to people who quit smoking. I'm sure waiting a bit, anyway, before I rush in asking for a colonoscopy. That's just me, though. . .
  17. Hmm. Interesting. Perhaps it is choice? I know my fear level over quitting was huge; it was comparable to "i will die if I cannot smoke." Just typing that strikes me as a bit, well, illogical. :-) Quitting sucks. NO SPARKLES. However, it is slightly less horrific than I thought it would be. I didn't die from the physical withdrawal. It was better than childbirth.hmm. Well, most things are, really. I am 5 weeks off smoke, and I am restless, irritable, and mostly discontent. I pray for sleep for some release from the constant anxiety. It is getting better each day, don't mistake me, but it is so god awful slow! Sigh. 40 years. Nancy, really, I DID expect to be over this in 5 days. lol!
  18. Yeah, having my husband say "just install it babe" to others besides myself could be a bit, um, weird. . . <_<
  19. Before:
  20. Still Before here, too. lol!

I too have had panic attacks in the past; panic for me is fear, and if you look at how your body reacts in a panic mode, it is ALL about breathing. Fear is shallow rapid breathing, resulting in lack of oxygen and some other chemical stuff I can't explain! lol. But, I found that I was able to alleviate most of my panic attacks by deep breathing exercises and talking to others so they could tell me I was full of crap about my fears, usually. And, that I wasn't alone. . .you're not, either, Evelyn.
  22. I will not smoke today
