  6. It must have been so cool to be around a booming scene like that. I grew up in rural America and when I was playing regularly the closest scene was Baltimore. There were some great bands there at the time, but nothing really came from it in the long run. Thanks to both of you for the encouragement! It might not seem like it, but this forum already helped me through some of the darkest days of all this (hopefully the darkest). I'm grateful for everyone here.

  9. I played in bands when I was younger but not as much anymore. Now it's just the occasional open mic night, playing whatever fits my mood in the moment. I've played in bands ranging from country rock to ska to metal to punk rock. That's so cool about your musical family. My dad was the only other musician in mine. I tried banjo once but I was so used to the way a guitar is tuned I really had trouble adjusting. I even tried one of those six-string cheater banjos that are made for guitarists one day in a music store. It was fun and it sounded cool but I wouldn't be caught dead playing it at a gig for fear that an actual banjo player might be in the audience and stab me for disrespecting the instrument Thanks! This week I've truly felt good for the first time since August.

    9 months!

@Kdad That's so awesome! You're an inspiration for us new quitters!
  12. Two months in and still NOPE!
  13. It's been a busy week and I haven't been online much. I have, however, kept to my commitment of not smoking and I've surprised myself at how little time I've spent thinking about it while I've been busy. I know I'm only two months in, so I'm not going to let myself get too complacent, but I had a pretty big accomplishment last week - I went to a bar and played at an open mic night. I wasn't sure how well I'd handle getting on stage without a cigarette to prepare my nerves and one to calm myself down afterward, but when the time came, I wasn't even thinking about that. Even with nerves and a healthy amount of beer in my belly, I still didn't smoke.

If I took that five, and I was to add one, well then I believe we'd have us a 6, wouldn't we?

  22. If you ask me my favorite song, you'll get a different answer depending on the day. But sometimes it's this one.
  23. Whatever the reason, the important thing is that you threw them out. You've got a tough road ahead of you but you'll find support here! Good luck with your Covid and good luck with your quit!
  24. @Doreensfree "BANANA BANANA BANANA" was our "safe word" when I was taking Improv classes a few years back. If someone took the scene somewhere that made you uncomfortable, you were supposed to shout "banana" three times and the scene would end, no questions asked. I never used it or heard it used but it was a nice safety net to have just in case. I don't know if safe words, or that one specifically, are a universal thing with imrpov or if that was just my teacher's way of keeping things on track. I appreciate your confidence in me! This isn't my first quit, but I intend for it to be my last.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
