  7. Sounds like you are having a super crappy day, my dear! I had a similar experience not long ago… something at work went horribly sideways and I was furious about how I was treated. I shouted to my partner, “I want a f—ing smoke!!” And oddly felt better after saying it aloud. Addiction thrives in brooding silence and compressed feelings. Sunshine and truth telling are the very best disinfectants. So shout, cuss, let off steam any way you need to… anything but lighting up. “This too shall pass.”

  11. Yikes, so sorry to hear about the accident! So glad that neither you nor your husband were hurt. Congrats on keeping your quit despite everything. The associations between smoking and stress last for quite a while. They are still present for me, at nearly the two-year mark, but they are gradually changing… becoming more like a vivid memory than a compulsion. You’re doing great to realize that smoking won’t fix a dingdang thing. I’m not surprised that you still feel jangled… I think the body takes longer to process shock than the brain does. Give yourself some time. In the meanwhile, it sounds like a good day to count your blessings!

  15. Twenty two years smoke free… what an amazing, life-affirming achievement! Thank you so much for your support as I begin my own journey toward freedom, Christian. You’ve handed me a lifeline, flashlight and compass more than once. Many thanks and hearty congratulations!!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
