  17. Jet, I was one of those people who thought I could smoke for another 25 years and lost a quit when i was your age. It was a lie. I quit smoking, never coughed and ended up with lung cancer. Some people here have COPD or heart disease or other cancers caused by smoking. Other people worry they smoked so long they might end up sick because of it and some of them are right. Don't be one of us.

  19. I still can't believe how long I smoked: 35 years as best as I can reckon since I had some unsuccessful but long quits. Started smoking at age 14.5 and quit at age 52, so 52-14.5=37.5 ... I've been quit for 984 days which is 2.7 years, rounded. So 2.7/35 is about 8%. Yeah. It seems like an eternity... I can't believe I let that addiction rule most of my adult life.
  20. Good that you got back on the horse and came back to the forum. It's tough to lose a quit and then have to start all over again but it is a totally self-inflicted wound. I also learned the painful lesson of no such thing as one cigarette. We are all addicts so one cigarette is a lifetime of smoking until we quit for good. Next time the thought of smoking creeps up remember that the addiction is just feeding you a bunch of lies to get you to feed it again. It's tough at the beginning but doable. The only way out of this addiction is to go through the process. It sucks but that is the way it is and eventually it . gets a whole lot easier. I quit and then had only a few months to enjoy my smobriety before my lung cancer diagnosis so I look back fondly on those months of freedom...

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
