How to prevent a relapse

Featured Replies

My name is Joan was reading your article. I wanted to share a little about myself. I am originally smoke free for 10 years now. However, went back to smoking a couple of days ago. And just getting back on track. I have an addictive personality and I keep reaching for cigarettes occasionally. Wanted to know if there's any suggestions you may have for me as well to help me stay on the right path as quit free smoker. What are some tools that you can recommend and appreciate your time. Thank you.again.

Hi, @joan. Welcome to the Quit Train!

I, too, lost a long (7+ years) quit. The mistake I made was not course-correcting right away. I ended up smoking for decades after that, making quitting that much harder. You are SO smart to get back on track right now! I deeply respect for that.

Read the pinned posts, (re)learn all you can about addiction, and come to terms with why you fell off the wagon - so that you can’t fall into that same trap again. And join us in the daily NOPE pledge if you like.

This is a great group of folks who will share wisdom, keep you accountable, and keep you laughing. Glad to have you with us!

Welcome aboard @joan I'm sorry to read that you started smoking again after such a long quit.

Tools I used/use is my JAC (jillars air cigarette). This works so well at tricking your mind into thinking it's getting the real thing. I also sucked on soft peppermint puffs all day long my whole first year. I don't know about you but I never smoked and ate so keeping those candies in my mouth really helped.

I also posted for support whenever I was feeling I might cave to a crave and members would talk me down and help me past it. This support is priceless and we love paying it forward so hopefully you'll try it so we can help you too :)

Thank you so much for your helpful advice appreciated this. Will try some of your methods. For, example cinnamon puffs. Thank you and have a great day. Joan.

Thank you for feedback this definitely helped me out. Have a nice day today

Joan.

Welcome @joan.... I can't add anything to the good advice you have received here.

I'd suggest sticking close to the Quit-train for a while and reading as much as you can and let us know how you are doing.

Good for you for getting right back on track with your quit.

Good morning everyone,

Happy to be here this morning with my quit in tact. This weekend, I spent time with family and did some partying with friends. Yes, I was romancing smokING big time and  honestly came very close to smoking. I still have work to do to get to a headspace where I completly stop romancing the smoke.

Well today, not having one puff.

Cheers,

Gene

You are addicted to nicotine, it requires you to smoke.  You can't bargain with an addiction, no is the only answer you can give when smoking comes to mind.

Gday

Been there done that….
If you have just one you will be right back where you started, and where you started was desperately wishing you were where you are right now. - Marvitta

40 odd years of smoking then not.

NOPE not one smoke ever did it for me. The realisation, the confession that I was that smoker, that addict. I would always be 1 puff away from lighting up 40 a day.
