My fitbit and little bit (of food)

Featured Replies

1200-1400 calories a day is hard......when I'm used to absentmindedly shoving anything in my mouth.

It's a good thing I enjoy healthy foods like veggies, fruit, whole grains because if I didnt, trying to plan a meal would be torture.

I got myself a Fitbit. Cool little gadget that sycs up with my phone, and counts my steps, my active exersize, can track my food choices, water intake, even track sleep.

So far, it's inspiring! That dumb little gadget that I clip to my bra isn't going to tell me I'm lazy!! No no no!

I'm making sure I get my 10k steps in.

Even if I have to do laps around my kitchen island while I put away supper dishes.

I've lost 3 pounds.

I hope.

It better not be a joke and show up on the scale again tomorrow.

I was at 155lbs.

Now I'm 152lbs.

My pre-quit weight was 127lbs.

I don't care what the number on the scale says, I just want my clothes to fit me.....so that's probably around 135lbs

I've never in my life had to make good food choices, or decisions like "hmm, if you have that pat of butter Julie, no cream in your coffee".

Pfft.

It's a challenge.

Way to go Julie!!  I love my fitbit.  Helps keep me aware to how much or how little i'm moving.

Good for you!!

Oh Julie,

I can relate! I was actually underweight when I quit smoking so I thought I could get away with gaining a little. But it hasn't stayed at a little, omg. I have NEVER had to watch my weight or what I ate so this is very weird. And add in, that I have discovered how good food can taste and we have a recipe for

I am trying not to get too upset, but this can't get out of hand! I might try the fitbit. I have started walking and hope that will help.

Good luck!

Karen

I gave up creamer in my coffee.  I know I was using probably 200 calories just for that in the mornings, so I know how you feel Julie!

I don't have a fitbit (yet) but I use MyFitnessPal for tracking my calories.

We quit smoking!  We can do this too darnit!

Mastergardener! That was me! You just described me!

My whole life, I was that girl.....you know, the skinny one who you'd see eating extea large fries. For a snack!

I ate entire bags of chips before bed! I'd think nothing of polishing off a bag of candy or a half dozen cookies.

Now.....

Wow, what a learning curve!

I DO like a measurable challenge though.

I'm a competitive spirit.....and just like nicotine, fat is not going to win.

I ate beets.

They were actually pretty good.

Not like Oreo cookie good....but better than brussel sprout good.

I'm getting pretty creative with 300-400 calorie meals....trying to pack all I can into so few calories, and trying to make them the healthiest, best tasting calories

Becca....I can't give up the cream....yet.

I'm getting there though.

I only have one coffee (in the morning) and the rest of the day I drink water.

But soon I think....I'll want to trade my 4 tablespoons (80 calories) of cream for something of more substance and nutritional value.

Man....that's a whole egg! Or an apple! Or 2 plums!

Yup.....soon it will be black tea for breakfast and coffee with cream will be a treat.

Pleased I'm not the only looney walking around muttering about how a poxy pear is 96 calories!!

It's tough. I am back where I started....6 months ago... it's a bit annoying!

Do you have ritz crackers, they are a good low cal snack! Like crisps, but not :( But still better then a grape :)

Mmmmm. Yes, we have Ritz!

Are you as shocked as I am to find out what an actual 'serving' of cheese is??

I'm like Colleen....a cheese lover!

But how in hell is a serving only the size of two fingers??

Well Ladies,

I work across the street from a Wendy's and several other fast and not so fast restaurants within walking distance. Never a problem when I smoked, but now.....

Just ate rye crisps and packaged salmon for lunch, then went out and walked a mile.

Something has to give and it is NOT going to be my pant size.

Sending us all strength,

Karen

I know, the cheese is shocking!!  I adore it too and have mostly had to say goodbye.

I think we're fighting the same sort of battle, I was 133 and now 151. Holiday didn't help :)

I use my fitness pal, is fitbit kinda like a mobile version of that?

You drink one coffee and water all day??  Now THAT is some hardcore commitment!!  Sure we will all be back in our bestest clothes in no time.

Well....I add crystal light to my water to flavor it with no calories, so it seems like juice.

I also like bubbly water with a slice of some kinda fruit in it to make it look pretty (a sliced up strawberry, a wedge of orange or lime, a sprig of mint with a slice of lemon)

Fitbit is an actual gadget that you can clip to tour pocket or bra (or they sell a bracelet form too) and it counts your steps during the day (the goal being at least 10 thousand)

It's different than the old step counters because it has an app for your phone, plus tracks all kinds of other neat things.

It keeps me mindful.

Teeny tricks have become the norm.

I take stairs instead of elevators.

I park in the farthest spot away in the lot at work and the grocery store.

I walk my dog the minute I get in from work so I don't get busy and accidentally-on purpose forget!

Which fitbit did you choose?

The fitbit zip:)

It does everything I need it to, plus it's small enough to hide on my bra strap.

Hubby is thinking of getting the bracelet one.

I'm right there with you Julie. I've never watched my food until now either. It does take some getting used too. Between you getting to your goal weight and quitting smoking you can do anything and your confidence will soar.

many of the flavored waters are zero calories. Have you heard of propel fitness water? It's my fave and I drink minute made lemon aid and it's only 15 calories per 8 oz. my down fall is soda. Man do I love soda.

Thanks, that is the one I am thinking of...I don't want it on my wrist at work...and also don't think I can sleep with something on my wrist...

Fitbit Flex here (the Bracelet)

Joolz - one of my little tricks is to manage the steps. So if tonight I want a treat  - I make sure that I walk a bit more. My fitbit talks to 'myfitnesspal' so - my calorie allowance gets pushed up if I exercise more.

So on a day when I golf - I can eat and drink what I want... B)

Lost around 30 pounds. Then work/life got a bit crazy and I fell off the wagon and put maybe 20 of those back on - back on the steps and moving in the right direction again.

As for the numbers - I have limbs that weigh more than you girls!

You all quit smoking.

Dropping a few pounds will be a doddle for you ;)

I wish I had taken a pic of my beautiful 300calorie lunch before I scarfed it down.

I had a tilapia fillet in multigrain breadcrumbs.

And a lovely bowl of layered veggies. Red peppers, celery, cucumber, orange peppers, green peppers and a tablespoon of yogurt-cucumber-garlic dressing.

Delish!!

That actually sounds quite nice...

Tilapia is a white fish right?

  • Author

Yes, tilapia is a white fish. Very mild tasting, but meaty in texture.

And I just discovered.....I can fry mushrooms and peppers with no additive in the frying pan.

No butter. No oil. Just straight up veggies.

And.....(hold on to your hat) I am at the gym....daily!!

And I...I like it!!

Who would have thought??

So my journey began with cleaning up my liver by quitting drugs and alcohol.

Then....time to clean up the lungs and throw the smokes away.

Now....its on to my precious heart (among other organs).

I swear, I feel like I could wear a Superman cape!  :)

We are fitness pal friends El B :)

I'm trying to remember to log my stuff there instead of on my fitbit app.

I got used to doing it there.....
