Welcome to QuitTrain! You have come to the right place for endless support. Everyone here knows what you are going through in your journey to quit smoking.

Although not easy, it's very doable. I can't put into words the feeling of freedom that you get putting an end to this addiction.

If you haven't already started, please immerse yourself in reading and educating yourself. There is great information here and it's also a good distraction.

Mindset is very important. I'm glad you've made your mind up! You will pull up strength from within that you never knew you had.

I used this mantra - Smoking Is Not An Option...NO MATTER WHAT

It's best to throw away your cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters, you don't need them anymore! Throw away the excuses while you are at it. There will always be an excuse, it's junkie thinking. That cigarette doesn't nothing for you!!!

Get through one day at a time, don't look any further than that. (sometimes it's an hour or a minute at a time)

Please post often. The good, the bad, and the ugly. We understand and it really helps.

You can do it.

Welcome aboard @Ponentben! You have totally come to the right place to get support for your quit. I smoked for over 40 years, so I can really relate to your feelings: I was utterly tired of the  harm, health issues, expense, stink and cognitive dissonance… yet I was still in bondage to nicotine. The wonderful people and info on this forum helped me get out of that rut.

Quit Train can help you build a strong quit, learn how to cope with the initial withdrawal, and ultimately claim your FREEDOM! It’s here waiting for you.

It would be great to hear a bit more about your status… Have you set a quit date yet, or made a plan to quit?

Welcome!! I am still a newbie with my 7 week quit. But I totally get your tiredness of the cigarettes. I have smoked for ~45 years before I was brave enough to quit. But not after I searched the internet and found this forum and the website whyquit.com. Read as much as you can. Understanding the addiction to nicotine and what nicotine as a chemical is doing to your brain and body was extremely helpful for me to get over the tough times. There are -also via this forum- a couple of helpful video's on how to navigate the first days and to minimize the side effects of withdrawal.

Don't think that it is harder for you because you smoked such a long time. There are people on this form who also quit after a long smoking history and they succeeded.

Yes, the beginning is tough but it will get better. It takes time (and patience), but it will get better as long is you do not get any nicotine into your body.

Writing about your quit is helpful too. If not on this forum, keep your own little diary. Especially looking back and see what you have achieved already is fuel into your quit.

Quit smoking is a gift to yourself! But give yourself rewards for the fact you have not smoked. Be nice for yourself. Spend the money you saved to something nice or fun.

Did I already mention that no longer having cold feet all the time is sooooo comfortable? I know there is much more but that was the first improvement I noticed. And actually pretty quick after quitting.

Let us know how you get on. There is a lot of support here!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
