  1. TWO weeks!!!!  Way to hang tight and stay the course!!  Life is so much better without that constant nicotine pull, and that pull decreases with each day we put between ourselves and that last puff.  Nice effort Evelyn.

  2. I spent thousands of dollars to attend week long holistic yoga retreats three years in a row.  After class, I'd walk off the property and hide behind palm trees or banana leaf plants and chain smoke.  Then I'd go back and eat a vegan meal.... :huh:

     

    I lived and worked in Antarctica where average winter temps were -90 Deg F.  I smoked outside all the time.  All the smokers did.

    I'm a newbie too and I found the info and support here to be invaluable to my staying the course.  There is SO much information here so just dig in and start reading.  At first, I had a hard time concentrating but I'd read and post when I could manage it.  The NOPE commitment is important...seems awkward at first but you'll quickly  learn its worth.

     

    Trust that you have the capacity to endure and conquer the rough spots.  They can be strong but they're short lived...honest!  Hang on tight to the reasons why you want to be a Non-Smoker...they will pull you through.  You've got this Rooster!

  4. Kickin off the new year...

     

    1.  I've lived in Alaska for 25 years

    2.  I lived and worked at the South Pole, Antarctica.

    3.  I lived and worked on an Arctic ice breaker research vessel, we made trips onto the pack ice for data collection and very briefly, I stood at the Geographic North Pole.

     

    <and i smoked outside everywhere i went!!  crazy)

  5. massive congrats on 2 weeks!!  Being nosy and wondering what you're doing to treat yourself?

    Treat myself?  Umm.  Nothing specific but anything I want...sort of.  I don't have any "normal" constraints in my life right now so I am rolling with whatever comes along.  If I want a nap or a long hot bath or a 10 min zip on the treadmill, I do it.  I'm saying no to friends when I want to be alone, etc.  So, I think I'm doing well in the treats dept.  Being unemployed means a tight budget so I'm refraining from indulging in monetary treats, but they don't hold much significance for me anyway, they never have really.  I may do a massage at my one month...we'll see.

  6. DF, Happy Belated Birthday.  We share the same birthday, and no, I did not arrive from Africa in the 2000s either.  But I have on occasion received a verification request from an IT dept making sure the birthdate is legit.  I hope it was a good birthday.

YAY!!!!  And thank you so much for the encouragement.  The last couple weeks have been a bit of a tormented blur :wacko:  but things are getting a bit less intense, phew!!  It's key for me to NOPE and to keep the end goals in mind when my junkie mind gets on a roll.  Having supportive, non-judgemental people close is also important.  

     

    I'm doing ok..not stellar, but I'm here and willing. 

     

     (btw, i'm a she, not a he ;) )

    Hey DD,

     

    Thanks for asking.  I'm still on track!   I've been smoke free since Dec 20th and nic free since Dec 30th.  I hope this means I'm on the downhill side of the 72 hr peak cravings they talk about and that the nicotine is flushing out of my body.  I wouldn't say it's been graceful and I still have really really intense moments, but I've held on tight.  I do have this constant vib of anxiousness but there are a couple of weighted things happening in my life so it could just be a combo of a few things.  Anyway....I'm a quitter and saying nope multiple times a day :).  Thank you so much for checking and congrats again on your milestone!

  9. Hello Fellow QTrs,

     

    Thank you for having such a great site!  There is so much info and support here.  Thank you Nancy and Jenny for the Welcome PMs...they were so nice to receive.

     

    In brief, I smoked for around 36 years, had many attempts at quitting, have tried the NTRs, prescription drugs, quit classes, etc, everything available to mankind and on occasion was able to string together a few days.   But...I took that one puff and was back at it for another 5 years or so...some of you may know the drill.

     

    On Dec 20th around 2 PM, I extinguished a cig I'd taken maybe 3 drags off of and said enough.  But I wasn't ready to go all out so I put on a 21mg patch and said a prayer; a couple days later I switched to a 14mg cuz the 21s were too much.  After I made it to a week without caving, I started feeling much better and stronger in my conviction.  I have been reading a lot and found the Allen Carr stuff last night.  

     

    This brings me to today...I decided to forgo the patch and take the next 72 as they come, I said my NOP(for today) commitment and when the jitters hit, I take DEEP breaths.  I definitely need to keep moving today.  

     

    I appreciate this site.  Thank you Mods for your good work and I look forward to hanging around for a while.
