Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
Thank you everyone!!! I am quite excited. When my docs office called this morning and I saw them on my caller ID, I got very nervous, but when she told me all the good news, I was totally ecstatic. Today was a very good day!!😁 @robin0212 and @LeapOfFaith the two of you can do this, hands down!!! Believe me, if I can quit, you can as well!! I am a big baby with no willpower, so I guess I'm doing something right and you can too!!!😁

Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
I got my blood test results back today and my blood sugar and cholesterol have come down a lot too!! 😁I really believe it's from quitting smoking and doing my walking!! I'm still prediabetic, but at the lower end. My A1C is 5.8 and normal is 5.6 so hopefully the next time I have my blood tested, it will be below 5.6.

NOPE!!- Overthinking!
Do it, LOF, you will see that it's not as bad as you think it will be. Trust me, I have only been quit for 3 weeks so I'm a real newbie and I am surviving. If you need to go on anxiety meds, go on them! I know you can quit, you can definitely do it. We all did it and we all have survived. 😃- Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
Thanks everyone! I was quite happy. I haven't had it that low in years and years!- Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
Today I went to my doctor for a checkup. I have high BP and I am on meds. Normally my BP is around 135-140 over 80 to 85. Well, today when I went it was 127/61!!!! 😁 I truly believe it came down so much because I quit smoking and have started walking. Hopefully my blood sugar will come down as well!!- Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
Ohh I know the cigarette won't make life easier, all the problems will still be there if I went back to smoking. But I am doing much better. The urges aren't as bad as in the beginning and they aren't as frequent. I have been doing the daily Nope as well. Nope definitely not gonna buy any. 🙂- Songs of Yesterday !!

That's for sure!! It does get easier as the days go on, I see it with myself. The cravings are not as bad now as they were the first week, they are definitely getting less and less!!- Tuesday 13th June 2023
NOPE!- Overthinking!
When I was on the Chantix for the first few weeks I would get nauseous in the morning and it would last about 30 mins and then it went away. I also had vivid dreams, but they weren't nightmares, just regular dreams that seemed to be more colorful and kind of like 3D. They actually were quite fun...LOL!!! With Chantix you smoke for the first week and then by the time you actually quit a week later, you don't really want to smoke anymore. Like I said, it makes you forget to smoke. It's a 3 month program and they have a Help line that you can call and a website where you can find great info. Since it's a prescription, you will need to speak with your doctor. Talk to him/her and see what they say. Other people have used the patch or the gum and were successful with that method. For me, this time I weaned myself off and by the time I got down to 2 a day I realized that I had couldn't stay at 2 because I was in constant withdrawal mode always looking for that next smoke. So I just made up my mind and then just stopped smoking.- Overthinking!
Hi Leap of Faith, No you are not being a coward at all!!! In our minds cigarettes are smokers friends. When I had my last cigarette I actually said "goodbye my old friend, I will miss you" I recently quit 3 weeks ago. It's not easy I will say that, but it does get better. The first week was difficult for me and I had a couple days where the cravings were really bad, but then in the 2nd week, it wasn't as bad as the 1st and now that I am 3 weeks quit it doesn't bother me that much anymore. I still get cravings but they don't seem to last as long. I smoked for over 40 years although I did quit for 6 years from 2009 to 2015 and then unfortunately went back. Honestly, it does get easier but everyone is different. I asked that same question when I first joined this board too. Just take one day at a time or even one hour at a time and believe me you will get through it. Look at all the people on this forum that have quit for several years or even decades. I'm sure they were all just as scared as you and I, but they got through it. If you can't do it cold turkey, why don't you try Chantix or the Nicoderm patch? I used Chantix with my first quit and it was a wonder drug, it makes you forget to smoke. Come on this board a lot and ask for help because we are all here for you! 😃 It really does get easier!! Try and keep busy a lot. Hang in there, you can do it!!- Songs of Yesterday !!

NOPE!!- Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
This thread I started back the end of May, I think a couple days before I quit. That's how I was when I was smoking 2 a day. It was terrible, much worse than when I had no cigs, because you are in a constant state of withdrawal, always counting the hours until the next smoke. If cold turkey is not easy for you, try Chantix or the Nicoderm patch. And we are all here to encourage you.😃- Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
Thanks!! Sometimes I don't feel so strong but I keep plugging along.- Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
Thanks Doreen!! Yup, everyone on this forum has been where I have been because we all have to go through the "firsts"! It's just harder this time because last time I used Chantix and for me that was a wonder drug!!- Sunday 11th June 2023
I finally decided to take the pledge folks! NOPE!!- Trying to quit, having lots of trouble
Thanks!! I keep plugging along Doreen. I just take one day at a time and try not to look too far ahead. I think the most difficult time for me is in the morning when I am having my coffee. I never smoked in my apartment. My mom and I have a 2 family house, she lives downstairs, I live upstairs and I have a terrace. My mom smokes in her apt so I would go down there and smoke or in the basement in the cold weather. When the weather was warmer I would go out on my terrace. Even when I went back to smoking the 2nd time, I never smoked up here. Anyway, I look forward to the day when I wake up and don't think of smoking anymore and I hope that happens soon!! I am quite proud of myself though. 😁 I think weaning myself was better for me than just going cold turkey. I honestly don't think I could have gone from smoking 3/4 pk to 1 pk a day and then to nothing. The weaning, even though was not easy, I feel was better for me than cold turkey, until I got down to the 2 cigs a day, which as many of you said, kept me in a constant state of withdrawal so that is when I decided to give up the 2 cigs. The urges were definitely worse when smoking 2 a day and also the first week. It is getting better, and I have you and all the other great people on this forum to thank for helping me along, especially when I have had my meltdowns!!! 🥰- Hello There!
Have you tried Chantix? You can get it from your doctor, it's a prescription. The first time I quit it really helped me. It makes you forget to smoke. I was quit for 6 years when unfortunately my husband had a heart procedure and I was so stressed and nervous that I went back. Or you can try the Nicoderm patch or gum. A lot of people say that really helped them. Yes, keeping busy helps. I have been walking since I quit and I find that helps too, plus it's easier to breathe when you don't smoke. Hang in there!!- Songs of Yesterday !!

Thanks!! I have prediabetes and want to get my A1C numbers down, so I'm hoping the walking will help. I even read that quitting smoking reduces your blood sugar. Thanks!!! - Wednesday 14th June 2023
