September 10, 201411 yr Zig zags are next to pedestrian crossings and school entrances to stop people parking. The flashing lights are the beacons for a zebra crossing. Not street lights. It was to alert drivers there was a crossing ahead and to differentiate from normal street lights. Not many of them left now, most have been changed for traffic lights. Despite Nigel Mansells assessment above (lol Action), you have to really slow down, the roads are much narrower here, but not stop completely as yes, we drive on the left.

And I was watching at midnight no pedestrians just people driving like speed demons who were turning on 2 wheels so if anyone was trying to imitate the Beatles they would've been flattened.

Haha, I know you've still got to slow down for a left turn... lol ;) I have the ziggy-zaggys on my road because of an infant school. My road is also a 20 mph with speed bumps, and 2 zebra crossings - but I swear that most drivers don't know what a zebra crossing is - most people just drive straight through them. Obviously I wait, because I am a gentleman :p
September 10, 201411 yr DD was going to post a witty reply lol but then thought I would really sensible and explain what a zebra crossing is, they are the black and white lines you see across the road, with the flashing yellow beacons that alert a driver, if you are waiting to cross here, the driver should show curtesy and let you cross, the markings were named Zebra because of the black and white stripes :) xx

So, a crosswalk is 'active' at all times? Because the 3 zebra crossings on my road (I thought there were only 2) have orange flashing lights, 24 hours a day, lol. We also have toucan crossing, and pelican crossings and possibly a puffin crossing... Don't ask me to tell you the difference, lol

If there is someone needing to cross they press a button and that signals the traffic light to stop traffic so that they can cross. At schools they have crosswalks with crossing guards along with everything else.
September 11, 201411 yr Here is Jackson Square in The French Quarter. To your right is The Cabildo, St. Louis Cathedral and The Presbytere. Across the way is one side of Pontabla apartments. Someday when my hoof is better, I will go to the square and wave to y'all. Now you can see goofy tourists and card readers (ugh) and some nice warm rain. I turn the volume OFF because I hate new age music but, you might find it soothing. It is supposed to be soothing but, it makes me reach for my fire ax. :)
