Look what happened to the lake behind my work...it's a natural algae...just turned pink overnight a few weeks ago....it's done it before, lasts a few months then overnight back to normal.

The California Poppy,

Eschscholzia californica

To give you some perspective,

they are only 4-12 inches tall.

It's our State flower, yes a weed. And it's illegal to pick them. So if you plant them here and don't like them like me then you have to go out under the cover of darkness to rid them from your garden....

And @notsmokinjo I have never seen an algae bloom like that before. Ours are pea green...……..

poppies are my favourite flower... they are kind of delicate and tissue papery but at the same time they are stubborn hardy little things that will grow in the most inhospitable conditions.... they lack the cosmetic beauty of some flowers but they are beautiful in their simpleness.

@jillar ... I think it happens only with salt water lakes.... but apparently its needs the right amount of rain, the right amount of hot days, the right humidity, and a few other things... We have a few pink lakes down here. Its become the #1 wedding photo location in Melbourne... couldn't think of anything worse.
