  3. Good morning SP, I am a prediabetic, I have been for several years now. My A1C hovers around 6.0/6.1 and I have been trying to get it down so I don't become a diabetic. I'm worried that since I quit smoking, I will crave the carbs a lot and snack on things that I shouldn't. I have been, for the most part eating healthy snacks, although a few times I did have popcorn. When you get the cigarette cravings and want a snack, what do you eat? After a while, snacking on carrots, peppers, apples, etc don't satisfy me. Do you think quitting smoking will make my blood sugar go down?

  5. thank you all!! I am so amazed with your kindness and consideration!!! Thank you, all of you for being so wonderful to me! I truly appreciate it!! I never had such an amazing group of people to help me!! 🥰😍
  6. Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and just recently quit smoking, my last cigarette was Monday night at around 7.30 after dinner, May 22nd. I haven't had a cigarette in almost 72 hours! Yay!! It's not easy as all of you know, but my question is....are there any pre diabetics/diabetics here who have quit smoking? I am a pre diabetic, I have been for about 8 years now. I'm not on any medication, but I try to watch my carbs to an extent. My A1C has been between 5.9-6.1 for most of the time that I was diagnosed. Anyway, another question that I have is how do you quit smoking AND watch your carbs and diet? I am trying to watch my carb intake, but it's difficult because not smoking makes me so hungry!! I hope this is the right place to post this in since I'm a newbie to this whole website and forums. Thank you for helping me! 😁 Sandi
  7. The money I saved isn't much because I used to get my cigs from an overseas duty free shop so they were cheap....$33.10 a carton! The reason why I quit was because the duty free place that my mom and I used was having problems with their shipper so we only had a few packs left. I weaned myself off trying to to let them last in hope that they would arrive, but they never did. So that is when I decided to quit. My mom spoke to a different person at the duty free place last week and he assured her they are coming. For her sake I hope they do come. She is 97 years old, in relatively good health but her doc told her quitting would be worse at this age. I made up my mind the other day when I ran out of my cigs to just quit because these duty free cigs aren't reliable, and I didn't want to go through the weaning process every time the duty free supplier had shipping issues. Of course, I could get them locally if I wanted to spend $15.10 a pack, $150 a carton!!! No way would I spend that much, nor could I afford it considering I smoked between 3/4 pack and a pack a day. The price could be close to $600 a month for cigarettes!! No way, would I spend that, so I decided to quit and not only am I saving money, even though it wasn't that much, my health is the biggest reason that I should quit. I want to exercise but since I smoked it was hard to breathe when I walked so I didn't walk much. Well, Monday night I decided to walk around the block and I did it again on Tues, skipped Wed but did it again today and will do it again tomorrow! Hopefully in a few months I can do it every day and increase the distance that I go. My husband and I are planning a trip to Scotland in the next year or two. Since traveling has so much walking, I think it's a great time to start walking now. In addition to a bit of breathing problems when walking around the block, the front of my calves hurt, but hopefully after a while I will get used to it. So there you have it, that is why I quit and in the long run I'm better off. 👍
  8. Great! Thank you! 😁

  10. I'm not sure the banner is visible. I filled in the fields, generated the link and the copied it in my profile, but I don't think it's there.
  11. Do you think it's too soon since I only quit Monday night.
  12. Good morning everyone! I am much better this morning, thank you!! 😄 I hope I don't have anymore of those meltdowns. Today is the 3rd day smoke free so I'm hoping it gets better from here. Thanks again for all of your support!!😃
  13. Jillar, I am a Pre diabetic and I need to lose 30 lbs! So I have to watch my carbs and food intake....I can't eat sweets...no way, and I can't eat much carbs. I definitely cannot have, juice but I can have lots of water...which I don't drink enough of. But, I do eat lots of fresh veggies, but unfortunately, it doesn't help with the hunger/and addiction! 😞 I know I should ignore my husband, but, he is a pain in the A$$ He gives me advice that isn't good for me! How can a person who was a smoker and quit a few years ago, not be sympathetic and understanding to me....even though, he thinks he is!! *Rolling MY Eyes*!!! But he is a whole other story! Anyone, here who is a pre-diabetic or a diabetic who quit smoking, can you give me any input? Thanks!!!
  14. what makes it really difficult is that I have a horrible marriage and my husband is not understanding, even though he quit smoking back in 2018! I don't want to bring that into this, but that is really making my quitting difficult in addition to trying to diet. So, I have many things to conquer, and that's part of my life!
  15. I am really struggling and, if you read my posts from yesterday, you will see that I quit back in 2009 with Chantix to 2015...go read the post...but , thank you so much Mac for helping me!! I really appreciate it!! It's so difficult now!!! I want to smoke!! I really really want to smoke!!! Ohh this is not good!!!!
  16. Right now, I cant do this anymore!!! Grr!!!
  17. Doreen, I'm sorry but I don't like that quote! I know you are trying to help, but I am struggling especially now!!! Thank you for your support!
  18. I know I'm going through withdrawals!!! *rolling my eyes* How long does this horrible feeling last?? I'm sorry if I'm acting nasty to all of you, I just cant help myself! SIGH!! I am having lots of problems! 😞
  19. Brioski, right now I am having a horrible meltdown, I'm crying!! I can't handle it, help me! It's not only the not smoking, it's I have some other things going on in my life that are making things difficult. How do you deal with life things, just every day things while you are trying to quit? How do you do it?? I feel horrible!!! (I'm just crying), forget about those little emojis
  20. I'm still hanging in there!!! Haven't had a cig since after dinner Monday night!! So tonight will be 48 hours!!! I'm amazed, but this is so hard!!!😣
  21. I'm trying to keep my mind off of it, but as you know it's not easy. It seems like I'm always thinking about smoking. Nope, can't just have one. It's a real shame that smoking is so bad because I truly enjoyed doing it. Thanks for your encouragement! 😃
  22. Thanks!! I'm gonna take it one day at a time. The mornings are difficult because I think I liked those cigs the best. I didn't smoke inside my house, I either went out on my terrace in the warm weather, down by my mom (she is a smoker and lives downstairs from me as we have a 2 family house), or I went down the basement. So this time of day is really difficult because I would smoke a lot in the morning after my coffee. Btw, where did you get that quit banner in your signature?
  23. Thanks everyone....I am now posting on this thread.
  24. Thank you! This is actually the 2nd time that I am quitting. The first time I quit for 6 years, from 2009-2015 using Chantix which for me was a wonder drug because it really made me forget to smoke. Unfortunately, I went back and here I am again quitting for the 2nd and last time!! In total I think I was smoking about 40 years as well. Yesterday was not as bad as I thought. I did have cravings most of the day but I certainly wasn't climbing the walls. I think the reason it wasn't so difficult yesterday is because I was doing the weaning method. I went from smoking 3/4 a pack a day and weaned myself down to 2 a day and then yesterday none. I believe that if I just quit cold turkey from the 3/4 a pack, I would have had a much harder time. Thank you so much!!! 😄
