Mom of the Day Award

Goes to..... Me!

My son caught a cold.  He was completely fine yesterday.  Complained of a sore throat and didn't want to go to basketball practice.  So I let him slide.  He stayed home from school today.  Mom is still thinking he is "faking."   Later in the day, he gets the runny/stuffy nose - maybe a fever (our thermometer is out of batteries).  His sister just recently learned how to use a neti pot, so I tell her to show her brother how to do it.  20 minutes later he is still at the sink barely squeezing the bottle.

I'm like, "Oh my gawd.  Just shove the thing in your nose and squeeze the bottle."  Mom grabs the bottle & squeezes it as son is gags into the sink.  "Does it kinda feel like you are drowning?"  Asks Mom.  "Kinda", says son, "you're getting water all over me."   "That's good.  We're doing it right then."

We finish in like 30 seconds instead of 20 minutes.  He wipes his watering eyes, nose and mouth.  "You'll feel better in the morning.  Now go to bed."

13 years later and Mom of the Day is still working on her sympathy skills.  Sheesh - it's a cold.  Let me know if you think you're gonna hurl so I can get a trash can for you.  No puking on the carpet.

I believe I am more sympathetic when kids or family are hospital sick. I hope I am.
