1963 and a Phil Spector's Wall of Sound production by the Crystals; Da Doo Ron Ron!

This song was based on an actual murder that occured in a bar in St. Louis on Christmas night 1895. Two men by the names of Lee Shelton (nick name Stag Lee) and William (Billy) Lyons were drinking tohgether and got into a heated arguement. The arguement got physical when Billy Lyons stole a brand new Stetson hat off Shelton's head! Lee Shelton pulled out a gun and shot Billy then left the bar. Billy Lyons died the next morning from his injuries and 'Stag Lee' Shelton was arrested and charged with murder for which he spent 25 years in prison.
