new here, looking for strength and support
Thanks Mee, I know the sleeping thing will pass, just like the cravings. I just have to have patience, thanks to God that I don't work. I would go crazy thinking I would mess something up. I worked in the printing industry, one mistake could be 20M for the company. Never had it happen, but would worry now. I am heart broken for those people who are doing this while working, raising a family, or dealing with a family health issue. NOW THAT IS TRUE STRENGTH AND I APPUALD YOU!! K

SLEEP
Gus Thanks for the info,I will do more readinggp on the site to see what might help. I was having problems sleeping before I quit. My doc just keeps giving me stuff that is off label. I want to scream just give me a sleeping pill and be done with it. I have found out that doctors in Texas ( and other states) are not only being monitored for opioid scripts but also the benzo drugs, I.E. sleeping medications valium, xanex etc. So they are afraid to give scripts for either, even if they know if is the right thing. I do not doc shop, I have been with same GP for over 25 years, you think they would get it. I have now been awake for 27 hours. K

I am thankful from the bottom of my lungs, I feel better just to have someone to talk to about the process since I have smoked about 40 years, and I don't have a clue how to stop. Everyone here has been kind. Can anyone give advice about getting some sleep? K

What made you make the decision to quit!
Rozuki,. Thanks for your reply, I am not a computer expert, first timer on a board like this so have patience with me. I am sorry to hear how much you have suffered. Deep in my heart I always knew things would go bad. Even when my husband was given the terminal skin cancer diagnosis, I still could not quit. I am the most stupid example of denying the facts when I watched the person I held/hold most dear disappear before my eyes. I am and forever will be ashamed of my behavior, There was so much stress and all consuming fear that I could not do the right thing. I need to spend more time reading the board so I can try to help others and appreciate the gifts of what you have shared. K

What made you make the decision to quit!
Thanks for your replies, did not know if I was the only one facing immediate health issues. I did not know if I could do this after 40 years with my friend, now I know my enemy well. Thinking of all of you and praying for all of you, somehow we can all do this one dream at a time for better health and a future of relief from worry. K

What made you make the decision to quit!
I think I may be the weird one here. In February 2020 I started having pain low back and hip. Went to the GP, pinched nerved, inflammation....medicine, heat, ice, rest. Would get better and then flair again, and then COVID. Could not go to the doctor for awhile. Finally back to GP, reflexes were off, something is wrong with your back, sent to ortho, spine guy. He took xrays, not back/spine, hip problem and it is bad. He did not go into detail. Had to wait 2 weeks to see the hip guy and all the while pain is getting worse. Spine guy, your hip has collapsed. Tried twice to do MRI but could not stay still due to pain, had to go to hospital and get put under to get the MRI. Diagnosis, AVN avascular necrosis(never heard of it vary rare) the top of my femur had died and broken apart due to lack of blood supply from smoking and increased by my alcohol consumption after my husband died inn 2010. Had to wait a couple of more weeks before they could do total hip replacement and one suicide attempt later due to pain,. finally done. Recover from hip replacement a breeze compared to earlier pain Regular G{ check up, insurance now pays for lung cancer screening, had the CT, not cancer but the start of emphysema. I have watched people suffer this slow horrible death, I will not do it, I will not make my son watch it and take care of me, he had enough pain with his Dad. SO I AM DONE! K

Having some bad cravings today
Hey Steven, Just saw your struggle today. I am new and am only six days in. Yesterday was hard for me too! Today is better, I am trying to be proactive with anything that might help. Had a third acupuncture treatment today. I am using nicorette lozenges for now if it gets to hard to bear. I have a giant jar on my coffee table full of all types of hard candies, those little dum dum lollipops are the best. Under the coffee table I have a bottle of bourbon. I have driven my neighbors crazy, bringing them homemade cookies and bread. (keeps me busy). I went to the hobby shop, got word search puzzles (to make sure I don't lose my mind) and some neat color projects, very fine images,, you have to pay attention. I leave alone, a widow, grown son married but I do have company. Three dogs, and they keep me busy, had only two littles and my best friend passed and I now have an 80# pure blood chow. Sorry I have been so chatty, I do find it helps to talk. STAY STRONG TRY EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING. THAT IS MY MANTRA! I WILL WIN AND YOU WILL WIN! K

Thanks so much for the welcome and encouraging words. Had a great easy day! Went to the tattoo shop to get my ears pierced. They were running a special so the place was packed. Line around the building with smokers. Did not bother me at all, I got this. K
