  5. Welcome Breathless. I too smoked for about 40 years (practically started as a tot). I really like your reasons for wanting to quit at the end of your post. Keep those in the front of your mind. I am however concerned with the number of times you said "Smoking helps me.....". You've got to dump that junkie thinking! Smoking doesn't help you in ANY way. The only thing smoking does (besides kill you) is get you past the immediate craving until the next one (approximately 30 minutes later). I never thought I could stop after decades of chain smoking....but the truth is, it can be done. You can do it. Educate yourself about nicotine addiction, and make a solemn commitment. That's the basic core to success. Really glad you found us!

You are strong Kellemae. You are with others who know just what you're going through. I really recommend you post in the Daily NOPE Pledge. It's an oath to yourself and others that will not take that first puff....no matter what. That's what it's really all about.

  9. Welcome Angie. Fear of quitting is so ingrained in us that we often put it off for years. But the truth is quitting is not impossible and not to be feared. Continued smoking is what you should be afraid of (as your 8 week stint with bronchitis is reminding you). Turn your fear into determination, commitment, and a desire for freedom. By looking at the benefits instead of dwelling on the difficulties your quit will be a lot smoother and likely to succeed.
  10. Congratulations!
