January 27, 201511 yr I recommend getting checked at your next visit to your Dr. if you were/are a smoker. It only takes a few minutes and is completely painless...just blow into a tube. I had a scare where it was thought I had early stages of C.O.P.D. .. It turns out I dont, but it did surprise and shock me and open my eyes to the fact that with all these years of smoking, 1 year quit doesn't make me immune to any of the nasty diseases that come along with it.
January 27, 201511 yr I have chronic bronchitus have 2 puff-things for it if I skip one I get an asthma attack
January 27, 201511 yr I went to a new Doctor last year. First task, a complete medical. Included was my first Prostate examination, which came as quite a shock....but I digress, I blew into the tube and got a sad shake of the head... I was a quit a few months then. This year's test will need to show signs of improvement....(and it will!!!M raaaaaaaah!)
January 27, 201511 yr Author It's not just for old people any more...I was diagnosed at 37, probably had it for a few years. It can improve. By quitting, medication and exercise, it does get better - much better. It is truly worth it to find out :)

January 28, 201511 yr How frightening. COPD possibility, I mean. I guess it is a test we longer time smokers should definitely have done........... I agree.... as I continue to read this thread... I am feeling anxious. I wish I could take it back.
January 28, 201511 yr With my lowest results I was closing COPD results but last results were pretty much the best in years!
February 5, 201511 yr Most people who have smoked for a long time have COPD. In my job it is easy to hear decreased air entry into the lungs with a stethoscope. A PFT test confirms & diagnoses severity of COPD. After 40 years of smoking I was diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis last summer....a form of COPD. I feel fortunate to only have a mild COPD. It could easily be much worse after the length of time I have smoked. Stopping smoking is the only cure.

February 7, 201511 yr Stopping smoking is the best cure. My Doc told me it would take 10 years to reverse my 40 yrs of smoking....that's a pretty good trade off considering .....
