Snow Shoes

Featured Replies

I posed this question in another thread but I think I am going to post a thread about it, Has anyone snowshoed before? I am thinking of getting some gear and doing it to get some winter exercise, or at least get the hell outta the house. Is it fun, a good workout? What say you?

When I was a kid, I tried a pair of snowshoes for about 15 minutes.  It wasn't easy, but that was years ago.  I do recall my aching legs lol, so a good workout, I am sure :)

Like Colleen, I tried snowshoes when I was a teenager. I didn't like it because it was a very slow way to get around. I also tried cross country skiing and I liked that a whole lot better. I did a lot of that when we lived up north. They are both great forms of exercise and, once you've got some practice, they can make winter a lot more fun. If you get very deep snow, then snowshoes are better. You can actually walk on top of the snow. Skis will sink in deep snow. But if you get a foot or less or if you go to places where other skiers have packed down the snow, then skis are best.

Are they still those things that look like two tennis rackets strapped to your feet?

^ this is what sprung to mind for me too, like in the cartoons. Is this it?!

these are the modern snow shoes

Ah, thanks for the clarification frez!

So, is it like a sport, or a hobby? You just simply go out walking wearing your snow-shoes/tennis rackets for fun?

I prefer the tennis racket look...

Still, Bakon will be pleased the Flip Flops are gone....

I think that sounds like fun!
