February 12, 20179 yr Can you help???? What the best way to remove old filler at the back of the bathroom hand basin..to replace it with new...???? And... Do I use a gun thingy.. To get a nice straight line... Thanking you in advance...
February 12, 20179 yr I am going to take a guess that what you want to remove is the old caulking. it usually isn't too much of a hassle to remove...a lot of the times, just using a putty knife to scrape it out is all that's needed....and...to re-caulk it, using a caulking gun will give a better and a straighter line...how-ever, the more experience you have with it, the better it will be...i have no problems using just a small tube that you squeeze to apply it...for a small job like that, thats what i would recommend...also, i would use 100% silcone instead of anything latex based. silicone will not discolor and also is mold/mildew resistant....but....silicone doesn't clean up as easy... if you get sloppy and have some to wipe off, you will need a solvent to remove it all.. to apply it, cut a small bit off the end of the tube on an angle , then with even and steady pressure, start at one end and slowly move along the joint to be caulked to the other end without stopping...if you can...the more you stop, the more uneven the caulk joint will be.. its really not hard, but i would suggest a youtube video or something so you can actually see the process.... i hope i didn't confuse you....and remember, this is assuming it is a caulk joint that you are talking about...lol
February 12, 20179 yr Author Yes..I think we just call it filler here..I have bought a small tube of anti mould ..it was more expensive ,but I thought play safe.. Thank you Joe..I never thought of you tube... I need a steady hand too..because it's hard stretchy stuff..I wasn't sure how to remove the old layer first.. It's sounds so simple when you say it..xxxx
February 13, 20179 yr its simple until it comes out the tube and gets on all your fingers then your shirt. i like to wet my finger and ru. it over the bead if a small area. wipe off on a rag. long tub or showers i got a tool does the same thing
February 18, 20179 yr Author Aww thank you for asking... I told my son what I was about to do..telling him..quit train and .. you tube had helped me work it out... 30 mins later..he arrived to do it for me...I guess he didn't trust me..lol....
February 19, 20179 yr Caulking is pretty tricky and not only requires a steady hand but the proper tools. Glad you got it done :D

February 20, 20179 yr Hardest thing to do is decide if this is something you can do yourself or .... just go hire someone to do it for you. Even better if you have relatives that will come to the rescue - LOL.

February 20, 20179 yr Yes! I find the same thing these days. If I am in doubt about something, go to the internet. It's amazing!! You can find something on there for just about anything. It's a real help at times!
