March 12, 201511 yr Having fun building my linked in accout for sneaky plans related moving on from my job. Any into it? Any tips
March 12, 201511 yr I'm learning my way around Linkedin as well so I can't help much. One insight I can pass along is to resist looking at profiles if you don't want them knowing you're snooping on them. I get an email notifying me who is looking at my profile. Had a nasty former coworker stalking me via Linkedin, an ex-boyfriend nosing around, etc. On the flip side to that, I'm also given a heads up on who may be hiring when certain connections are looking at my credentials. Good luck!
March 12, 201511 yr I need to get a linked in account. Sadly I can't give any insight thou, just a comment that I'd be interested to hear as well.
March 12, 201511 yr It is something you should have as part of your professional profile. It is a good exercise in defining your skills, and highlighting new directions you may want to take. Will it get you a job? Probably not. I've had strange visitors from the past taking a peek at my profile. Disconcerting.
March 12, 201511 yr Hey Beacon. Good to build an accurate profile. That is stage 1. Connect to the people you know, can be fun. Then look at groups. Join ones that interest you. Some will be useful, some you might not find useful, and may choose to leave a year down track. But groups is where you began to interact, and to post. This is often where people think "hmmmm...chartered accountant in London? I know one of those". Groups is also where you chat with professionals in similar fields, it is your shop window.
March 13, 201511 yr Author Thanks. I have already seen people snooping at my profile , including anonymous people
March 14, 201511 yr Okay, so have a question. I joined an Accounting and Finance Professionals group months ago and all I get is spam messages from the group. What am I missing?
March 14, 201511 yr I'm not sure Colleen. I am a member of a few UF and author groups on fb and they've all been legit. I think just keep looking for the right group there.
