This was announced today .

 

An improved anti-smoking drug called Varenicline is being rolled out by England's National Health Service (NHS). The pill is more effective than nicotine-replacement gum or patches, and as effective as vapes, in helping people to stop smoking, according to NHS England.

 

This is great news 🐸

Is this similar to what Chantix was?  What are the side effects? Chantix had several including nausea, vivid dreams and some other really bad side effects.

It’s a newer version of Chantix ..

Time will tell whether the side effects will be the same .

Yep I’ll put my hand up …..I had a chemically enhanced quit! 
I took Champix!

50 years of cold turkey, patches gum….. nothing.

Now I’m 9 years nicotine free!

My decision then was

Take the champix

Or keep smoking and die of a smoke related illness

I took the less scarey one 
 

I used it the first time I quit and it really was a wonder drug, it made me forget to smoke.  I don't think it's available in the US anymore.  I don't see it advertised on TV like it was years ago.

I also quit with Champix!  I don't think there is a "best" way.....I do not believe I would have made it cold turkey...whatever keeps you quit is the best way!!

For me cold turkey was much harder but any  way that we quit smoking is a good way! 👍😀

I quit with the patch but found still had to get through the craves when started to wear off so will power got me through it.

I used NRT too (patches and lozenges) for a short time to start my quit… but sheer cussedness ultimately helped me keep it. In the end, any method of quitting that sticks is something to celebrate. If a pill can help some folks along, hallelujah.

It is the generic for Chantix.  This makes me think Chantix is now off patent.  Lower costs follow when that happens!🤞Cost was a likely deterrent for many.  This barrier is now lifted, hopefully!

It probably is off the patent as patents usually last 15 years for the brand names and I used Chantix the first time I quit back in 2009.  Back then it wasn't covered by insurance and cost about $130 a month from what I remember.  It was extremely expensive but then insurance started to cover it after a while.

We are Lucky we can get it free on the NHS
