May 11, 201511 yr Recently I attended the funeral services of my boyfriend's 56 year old uncle. He died from esophageal cancer (he was a smoker his whole life). Let me tell you - 56 years old does not look old!!! In many ways he was in the very prime of his life: he has(d) a son and daughter about to get married and maybe have babies, he was soon to retire from the force, he was poised for vacations to sunny places. Now he will never see any of this. Two decades were stolen from him. Two decades were stolen from his family. In fact, smoking has killed quite a few members of my BF's family. It's in his genes BIG TIME - both the addiction and the diseases. We started smoking together when we were 15 years old. Now we're quitting together at age 32. He keeps trying to justify a relapse by saying things like, "We still have 3 more years in us - all these articles say we're safe as long as we do it by 35." What a load of BS. He's been quit for 2.5 months and he's driving me BONKERS. Talk about romancing the cigg!!! But as of right now - we are young, healthy non-smokers. I need to be grateful for RIGHT NOW because it's just so amazing to experience this transformation with a partner. The improved & enhanced intimacy is remarkable. He doesn't realize how he's already become calmer, more present and more confident. Yes, our arguments are also enhanced and his whining is sometimes hard to endure but this will all be worth it if I get to grow old (really old) beside him.
May 11, 201511 yr Smoking has ruined my life and my hubby,s.....it's that simple.... But when your young.....your invincible....
May 11, 201511 yr Yep - I was certain I could quit when I wanted ... And I was going to do it by the time I was 30, no maybe 35, make that 40 .... Well at least I turned 50 smoke free .... I was only 18 years later than planned !!
May 11, 201511 yr I can't believe i was more afraid of living without smokes than I was afraid of dying from them
