I agree, it's very philosophical. I believe that as long as we have the will to control and resist it, and understand its addictive mechanism, we can gradually reduce the amount of tobacco consumption. When cravings arise, we should exercise self-control and not become its slave every time. This is the key to success.

I want to say: every craving you get through counts.
Yes, I wouldn't do that either. I know it's tough to control the craving for cigarettes. You have to constantly resist and fight it. Of course, many times before, I lost and still smoked a cigarette. But I believe that as long as I keep reducing the amount and overcome it more times, then I am strong.

Gday I don’t smoke….. and I certainly don’t resist urges to smoke for 30 times till it “made” me smoke. Fighting smoking urges till I finally have one…. Over that. I DONT HAVE URGES. I’ll shout it from the roof tops. I’m FREE. It’s not about the money. It’s not about the smell. It’s not about the health. It’s the freedom. I hate smoking with a passion. I love smokers cause I was one. I’ll never give them a hard time cause it didn’t help me when I was a smoker. I’ll let them come to me and ask. Till then

Gday “the slip matters, but the previous progress still happened.” No it doesn’t. I spent 40 years as a smoker. Giving up, relapsing. Still a smoker. Stop smoking and you’re not a smoker till you do. Smoking again is not a bump on a path it’s smoking…..

I have tried to quit smoking many times, but I couldn't resist having a silp one day. I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that one cigarette can pull you right back into the addiction loop. I’m not saying the smoke doesn’t count. I’m just not sure it means every bit of progress before it becomes worthless. If someone rode out 30 cravings and slipped on one, those 30 still happened. The slip matters. The progress does too. And 11 years smoke-free — respect. NOPE clearly works.

I am a relapsed smoker, has tried to quit several times but failed. Fair point — and I totally get the NOPE mindset. I’m not saying one cigarette “doesn’t count” or that it’s harmless. It absolutely matters, and yeah, it can pull you straight back into the addiction loop. What I’m questioning is whether everything before that moment has to count as zero too. If someone got through 30 cravings without smoking, then slipped once, I’d still say those 30 moments were real. They practiced not acting on the urge 30 times. So for me it’s not “the smoke doesn’t matter.” It’s more: the slip matters, but the previous progress still happened. And honestly, 11 years smoke-free is huge. Respect.

Gday You’re a non smoker? Ex smoker? Relapsing smoker? Every time you smoke every one of those non smoking mins days week goes in the toilet. Counts as a fail. Reenforces the nicotine addiction. If you have just one you will be right back where you started, and where you started was desperately wishing you were where you are right now. - Marvitta I’m an no smoker cause I havn’t smoker for near 11 years. I have a smoke and I’m a 40 year smoker again. Simple maths NOPE… Not One Puff Ever

Gday Are you an xsmoker, a never smoker? Simple as this You smoke and you throw the lot away. In the toilet flush and forget. Lost there potency. Worthless Na Da. You reenforced the nicotine addiction and everyone on those gains are gone. If you have just one you will be right back where you started, and where you started was desperately wishing you were where you are right now. - Marvitta Not One Puff Ever means I’m a 10 plus year non smoker. One puff erasers the lot

I built something for people who aren't ready to pick a quit date yet
Something I've noticed in quit-smoking products is that they often start with: “When did you quit?” That's a perfectly reasonable question. But I kept wondering about everyone whose answer is: “I haven't yet.” They still want to quit. They might already be cutting back. They may already be getting through some cravings without smoking. But they haven't had the big Day 1 moment yet. That's who I built Decrave for. You don't have to set a quit date to start. You can just begin with the next craving. The app keeps track of the cravings you get through without smoking, and that count doesn't reset if you smoke later. The idea isn't to pretend the cigarette didn't happen. It's just not to pretend everything before it didn't happen either. I'm the developer, so obviously I'm biased, but I'd really like feedback from people who've actually lived through quitting: Would something like this have helped you before your final quit? Or did you need the hard commitment of a quit date before anything really changed? If anyone wants to see what I'm talking about, it's called Decrave on iPhone.

I want to say: every craving you get through counts.
Hello, I've been reading through a bunch of the discussions here, especially the posts from people who are trying again after a slip. One thing kept sticking with me. A lot of quitting is measured in days: Day 1, Day 7, Day 30, and so on. Which makes perfect sense once you've quit. But I kept wondering about the person who isn't quite there yet. Maybe they want to quit. Maybe they've tried before. Maybe they're still smoking today, but there are already little moments where they choose not to smoke. I became interested in those moments. I'm a solo iPhone developer, and I've been building a small app around the idea of counting cravings you get through without smoking, rather than only counting days since your last cigarette. So if you get through 20 cravings, then have a bad night and smoke, those 20 don't get wiped away. You still log what happened. Nothing gets hidden. But the app doesn't tell you all the previous effort suddenly became zero. I called it Decrave. I'm not here to argue that this is better than quit dates or streaks. I know those are really meaningful for a lot of people. I'm more curious about the in-between part. For people here who've had to restart a quit: what did “Day 0” feel like to you? Did it help draw a clean line and get you going again? Or did it ever make you feel like everything before that had been wasted? I'm genuinely curious, especially from people who've been through a few attempts. You don’t have to quit perfectly. Every craving you get through still counts.
