I'm coming off valerian

Featured Replies

it's a natural sedative. Gives me some withdrawals too and I take it slowly by taking off a half a day now. But I can't concentrate and I know it's just withdrawals of that stupid calming natural pill. I feel happier without it but also more anxious. Double to say the least GRRRRR feels like withdrawals of nicotine a bit. I screwed myself by taking them 4 times a day - hard to come off. + it's addictive too bloody stuff, wish I never took it

I suspect my crying has a hormonal facet because when I take a herbal for a regular cyclus with vit B and omega3 I stabalise

I hope your transition off it is a smooth one Evelyn.

If it turns out I do need a mood stabilizer (through unknowingly self medicating with cigs) I will be mindful of this. Seems I went 'cold turkey' on that score and I kid you not, it will haunt me forver.

So how long do they expect it takes for things to even out for you?...if you don't mind me asking?

I'm concidering lying low here for a while and joining a depression forum, as I have LOTS of questions. I think I feel unsettled and will feel better once I chat to folk.

Well i discovered that the hormones are an issue too I'm off the pill too going back is not an option. I'm using 'evening primrose' to get my hormones back on track and if over two weeks I'm still so anxious, which I doubt. I will speak to my pdoc about it. Going on antidepressivants is not an option as it back-fires with me. Besides I'm not depressed only very crying sand some scared but I REALLY thing it's a hormonal thing.

Going of the valerian will take me a few weeks.

Well I have every confidence your readjustment will be fine Evelyn.

You are doing an amazing job Evelyn, when you think of the hormone issues going on in the background too, hat's off to you.

I have a book, The Chimp Paradox, The Mind Management (Dr Steve Peters) that my husband brought home from a work conference. I am going to read this, train my mind to readjust itsel. I have no idea if it's anything you woyld find useful? Have not started to read it myself yet, but just thought I'd share with you, just in case it might help you.

Hope you have a great day Evelyn, in whatever you do.
