February 9, 201511 yr Edit: (Repost of Post #19) I see that this is not that clear for anyone wanting to follow instructions, to be sure they have notifications on the Main Board, for any "Newly started SOS Threads". Below, is what I did: 1) Click on the "The S.O.S. Board header, on the main board -> to the far right, click on -> "Follow this forum" -> Check the box for "Receive notification" -> choose from the drop-down list -> "Instantly" -> and below in white, click on "Follow this forum". 2) Click on my name on the top of the main page -> "My Settings" > on left list, click on "Notification Options" -> on the " Notification method to use for topics in followed forums" -> place a check under "Notification List". Now, I have notifications of newly started SOS Threads, on the top of the Main Board. If you want, you can have emails sent to you, too. I don't. I hope this helps.
February 9, 201511 yr I once asked the same question. But the no smoking sign to the left of all the forums....that's highlighted when something new is added to that forum. once you click it or read all posts in that forum...it is no longer highlighted. That way, when something new is added..it will be highlighted again..meaning, a new post was entered since the last time you either clicked the sign...or read the post. Hope that makes sense..hard to explain..lol
February 9, 201511 yr You can also set it up so that you get an alert via email when a new topic is posted in a particular forum.

February 9, 201511 yr Author You can also set it up so that you get an alert via email when a new topic is posted in a particular forum. That would be helpful, for most maybe but, I choose to check my emails on line, without the help of a desktop application.

February 9, 201511 yr exactly....neither do i....but before I leave the site....I click on the no smoking sign on all the forums...so that when I come back...if some are highlighted...then I know that new stuff was added. I can then choose to read the new stuff...or once again..click on the no smoking sign to "clear it"
February 9, 201511 yr see? highlighted areas....new stuff was added. to "clear" it...click the red circle...and it will no longer be highlighted
February 9, 201511 yr Author see? highlighted areas....new stuff was added. to "clear" it...click the red circle...and it will no longer be highlighted Okay, thanks, I see now what you mean. That works, and I may use that feature, and only for that section. What of all the people, that don't know/use that feature, but would jump into a new SOS Thread that was started, if they were alerted? Edit: Never mind Babs. That works pretty well. Carry on ...
February 9, 201511 yr I get a notification on the board when someone posts in SOS, in addition to the email. If you follow the forum, you can choose to get notifications instantly.

February 9, 201511 yr Author Oh! Let me try that. Well Nancy. I have set my preferences to follow the SOS forum, and I can set the alerts for email notifications, but I can't seem to set the notification for being alerted in the forum. How did you do this? Edit. I changed my notifications in the content I follow, (SOS forum), to be immediate. Now to see if I can turn on that notification, instead of just the email notification. And I now have the checked boxed for: Notifications Preferences -> "Notification method to use for topics in followed forums" (for SOS forum. as above). Maybe someone else has to start/respond to a thread in that forum, beside me, for me to get a notification ...

February 10, 201511 yr Author I only get a notification for a new thread, not a new post...so only if someone has posted a new SOS. I do not need notification when someone has responded to one.... I'll wait and see, after the next person starts a thread, to see if I have it right then.
February 15, 201511 yr Author I only get a notification for a new thread, not a new post...so only if someone has posted a new SOS. I do not need notification when someone has responded to one.... Thanks, Nancy. I just sat down at my desk, and saw that I had a notification, on this forum. At first, I didn't know why I got it, then looked to see if it was in the SOS Board, and it was. So, it appears I have it set.
