Hack My Life

Featured Replies

This last week I've had my dishwasher air gap spitting up water and yesterday when I tried printing something off my computer an error message of B200 popped up on my printers display followed by alternating green and yellow lights flashing.

After trying two hacks I found on the internet, my dishwasher air gap is no longer spewing water and my printer is fixed. For how long, only time will tell BUT why not have a thread for us of hacks that could save our hard fought for quit smoking cash for something fun instead?

Dishwasher air gap hack that worked for me:

Take the top off the air gap. Unscrew or unclick the inner cap. Once removed, get an empty paper towel roll and place it over the air gap creating an air tight seal. Blow as hard as you can inside the paper towel roll. This cleared our clog and forced it into our disposal. Problem solved :)

OK so this is a silly hack but... we have a tiny freezer section on top of the fridge so freezer space needs to be optimised... however I share a house with 3 children (well the kid is 12, the other two are males) who like to fill the freezer with frozen deserts and microwave meals (that's 20 yo... only eats microwave meals and cereal because I refuse to cook for him because he refuses to do any dishes or housework)... anyway... I was having to shop ever night or second night because there was no space to store stuff.. but i have found with things like mince I can put it into ziplock bags and completely flatten it and then stack them and it takes up so much less room. I do the same with leftovers (like lasagna, etc) takes up way less room than tupperware containers.

So the printer hack was a temporary fix that bought me two weeks until the printer took a shit. I'm glad I didn't post it BUT the dishwasher air gap is still working CHERRY! :)

Today's hack is a rubber glove or even the bottom of your tennis shoe can be used to bring dust out between places your vacuum can't reach :)

Todays Hack... when you need a lid for the saucepan but because that time when you threw it across the house and it kinda dented out of shape a bit and the lid don't fit anymore... well just use some aluminum foil over the top.

Oh... must be an Aussie thing... or a crazy thing... they are not mutually inclusive necessarily.
