Welcome, Bonnie. I am sorry to hear about your Mom.   I'm sure you are scared, but you can do this.  Just make up your mind that there is no circumstance in which it is okay to smoke.  It is okay to cry, scream, rant, rave, sing at the top of your lungs, run till you drop...anything but smoke.  There is a lot of great information here to help you along, and a lot of great quitters to cheer you on.  Quitting can be difficult, miserable even, but it will not kill you.  Many of us smoked for 40 years or more, and if we can quit, you can, too!!

Bonnie,

Fear of the long-term health consequences of smoking has been the springboard for many successful quits.  Understandably so.  However, the benefits of quitting begin immediately.  The body begins to heal itself within the first 72 hours.  You will begin to feel more relaxed in time as you are no longer planning your every waking hour around getting your nicotine fix.  The sense of physical well-being and psychological relaxation will serve you well in every aspect of your life.

There are great informational resources available here.  Read some of the articles and watch some of the videos.  Education about the addiction demystifies the cigarette and shatters the myths and lies we told ourselves as addicts.

Congratulations on deciding to take back your life and freedom.  You've made one of the best decisions of your life to quit smoking.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
