If you are still smoking it is like being on the Titanic and knowing there is probably a huge iceberg ahead of you. You just don´t know if, or when, it will hit you, and sink your life.

Now - *TODAY* - is the time to change the direction of your trip in life.

Your choice is clear. You can:

A. Continue to smoke going forward in your life trip, and hope that you are one of the 50% of smokers who do not die at average of 10-12 years before your expected time, or develop a chronic health condition caused by smoking.

B. Quit now changing permanently the direction of your life trip, and greatly increase the chances of living a healthy life, and dying when you are expected to die.

Any excuse that your nicotine addict mind may tell you cannot justify to smoke one more day.

And any discomfort you may feel temporarily when you quit, cannot equal the discomfort of losing a lung; of losing a leg; of gasping 24 hours a day from emphysema or COPD until you die from it; or slowly drowning to death from blood and liquids in your lungs caused by lung cancer.

50%.

Ready to bet ???

Keep on smoking.

Betting your life and future on coin-flip odds all for a temporary nicotine fix.  That's no way to live a life.

I want to share my experience of quitting.

I quit 6 months ago now with the help of a psychologist and it feels so good! Thought it might help all you guys out to share a free app that has just come out that is like your own personal psychologist in your pocket! It's called Quit Genius and it uses scientifically proven behavioural support to change the way you think about smoking and break your addiction. It's like the headspace for smoking. It's free to download on the App Store and has some awesome reviews. Check it out or might help you guys out :)

No better time than now that is for sure. Every day I hope I quit early enough at the age of 33. I am now 35 and I wake up every day thankful that I am making the right choices for my health. I started to seriously try and quit when I was 32 I believe and made it various times but I finally have the sticky one. What was done as a result of my smoking is done and I can't change the past but my actions today can greatly impact the future.

I don't know your story Doreen can you share it with me or provide a link to it?

My story ....or our story....

Smoking done its deed ,with hubby and myself...he lives with end stage emphysema... He's now housebound and needs full time care...fighting to breath...this has lead to depression ,anxiety and panic attacks..he depends on me for everything.even bathroom duties...he is frightened knowing its a progressive illness..very sad .

I faced having my two feet amputated ,if I didn't quit right away..even then there was a chance it was too late for me..

Thankfully it was successful...

Smoking effects different parts of the body..I thought because my lungs were OK..nothing was wrong...

It wasn't until I couldn't ignore something was dreadfully wrong with my circulation ,I seeked help..

Now we are at the age when we should be enjoying our retirement, like we imagined..we cannot do any of the things we would have enjoyed...

If anyone who has not quit reads this..quit now ...we didn't think this would happen to us either..

It seems almost disrespectful to "like" a heartbreaking post like this but I want to honor the powerful message being shared here. There are so many people looking at these posts, on the fence about quitting. Make no mistake about it. Smoking has nothing to redeem it. It's harmful in so many ways. If you're still smoking, stop playing Russian roulette. Take back your life. We've all don't it. You can too.

Even today I was out mowing the lawn and today was a bit cool and crisp; an indication that fall is right around the corner. I LOVED to smoke in the fall. Nice crisp air and a smoke while enjoying the colors of the leaves turning colors. All these thought going through my head then my neighbors landscaper light up and it all came crashing down... That smell was not a good smell. He's probably about 60 and his fingers are clubbing so something very well could be festering in there.

The seasonal triggers are why they say you need to commit for a year to some sort of support community because until you have gone through all those seasonal change-overs, you haven't exhausted your triggers to smoke even though you feel you are over the worst of your cravings. We have had an unusually warm Sept. where I live and it is supposed to continue for another week so we have yet to move into that Fall or Autumn season, I agree with what you said though Jryan, fall used to be a time when I liked to smoke in particular. The cool crisp air, burning leaves on an outdoor fire and gatherings for Thanksgiving. Just thinking about that in advance helps me prepare for it though. I can now look forward to new experiences when the weather does turn cooler :)

Oh yes those little rewards of poison we so deserved..when we did a task, when the sun was out,oh and when the moon was out ,changing of seasons..having a coffee, having a beer...wait..sounds like a addiction that needs to be fed no matter what going on..

Soon enough ..you will be enjoying all this stuff even better smoke free...practice makes perfect ....

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
