I was wondering... Now that there are QT Tickers, is there some kind of underlying database that can be mined for no-smo data as a community?

I thought it would be pretty cool for guests, newbies, potential newbies, and us oldies too, to be able to see how well we are doing as a community, how successful we are... for example, there could be a QT Community Ticker on the main page or something which showed:

Number of members included (signed up for the QT Ticker)

Total amount of cigarettes not smoked

Amount of money saved (maybe show a $ equivalent or something)

Total amount of time combined that the community has not been smoking for...

Don't know about you, but I think it would be pretty cool to watch us break the 100,000 cigarettes not smoked (or however many we would be at), and watch those milestones grow, as we grow ourselves. We are all in the together, after all :)

Maybe it is too difficult to do, but I thought it might be fun, and also show everyone how far we have come together :)

What do you think?!

I think that is a great idea, Ross!

I would change my ticker, but I missed the instructions at some point

.For your QuitTrain quit meter, click on the QT Ticker tab at the top of the page.  It will take you to where you can enter your information and pick your design. Once your ticker is created, copy the address on the right hand side. Next click on My Profile (in drop down by your name) and then click Edit Profile.  Select signature on the left side, and then paste the address in the signature box.  When you click Save Changes the ticker appears!

Once you have chosen your ticker style, there are 2 sets of code you can copy. One starts like this: [url=http://www.quittr...

the other starts with <a href...

Copy the one that starts with [url=http:/

Then go to your signature box like Nancy said and be sure to switch to BB mode (the "light switch" icon at the left hand side of the top navigation ribbon). Once you are in BB mode, paste your [url=http:// code. Then switch back to normal mode and you should see your ticker.

As Nancy said, be sure to save your changes before you leave the signature page.

Just kind of in line with this thread...

Last night my husband sat down at the computer and happened to see my ticker. There's nothing secret about this site, of course, but I have a habit of closing the browser when I'm finished surfing the net and this time I didn't. So he saw my ticker.

He said, "Wow!! Do you mean to tell me that you have not smoked 8,000 cigarettes since you quit??!! And you have saved more than $1,200??!! That's terrific! Good for you."

I guess I take these things for granted now. His praise made me feel good.

Aww, isn't that just the BEST feeling when that happens?!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
