The more of these you get past the easier it gets. Just keep reminding yourself of how you were able to quit for a year and if you can do it before you can do it again. I use to constantly repeat "this too shall pass" and "all good(?) things must come to an end".

I also equated it to stuff I had outgrown like riding dirt bikes or amusement park rides. I outgrew smoking as well...

Hang tough Kdad.  You can get through this.  We travelled our journeys together during your first quit.  I know you have the fortitude to do this.  I'm thinking your lapses are more about being down in life.  You seem to have had a lot that has happened, including the pandemic.  Cigarettes do nothing for you.  You are worthy of a smoke free life.  We are here for you!

I hope the day is a little easier on you now @Kdad remember that if you smoke a cigarette it may give you a release from the cravings when you are smoking it, but as soon as you put it out, a craving will start building again. Then the cravings will start to come back stronger again. To be completely free you need to keep looking at one day at a time, and if you are having a bad day, do whatever it takes to get through. Look no further than that.

Thanks for the support! Still smoke free.

Good for you, Kdad.  A crave doesn't last forever.  Every time you fight through one, it is a victory and your quit grows stronger.   Keep up the great work.

I want to smoke too!  The cold hard truth is I can't. The minute the doctor told me a cat scan revealed the beginnings of emphysema I knew there was no more telling myself smoking was okay.  Push came to shove, the cat was out of the bag, the cookie crumbled, and I had to face the consequences of my actions over the last 40 years. Sounds like the Doc has told you, you are on a one way road to a bad head on collision.  Your family is in the car with you. If this was literally happening while you were driving you would get off at the next exit.  You have done it before, you know you can do it.  Please save yourself and your family from heartbreak.  Accept it as the only choice!

I started using the vape to quit smoking about a year ago and the doctor told me if I was going to be successful at quitting smoking I had to treat my ADHD so I've been on medication for that for about a year and managed to stay off of cigarettes now I'm quitting vaping. Well vaping seems easier to quit it is still nicotine and my heart goes out to you I'm 12 days on nicotine patches doing well and I know you can do this too if I can do it it is literally taking me the past 8 years and one addiction specialist to get this figured out hang in there hang on it's worth it!

Hi, @Georgia B.! Welcome to the forum. It's really great to hear a little bit about your story.

It sounds like you've been on quite a journey to find your freedom. Many of us here on the Quit Train have had our own long and winding roads with this addiction, too. Congratulations on finding your way here and for seizing the opportunity to ditch the nicotine and vaping for good. I, too, used the patch system, so if you ever want to talk about that let me know. I'm now on day 84 since my last smoke, completely nicotine free, and not looking back! It does get tough at times, but then it gets easier. There are lots of smart, kind, and funny people here to support you along the way. So keep us posted on how you are doing!

Glad you are here.  Sounds like you have been preparing for some time.  I don't know much about vaping but for me it would still be smoking, inhaling nicotine. I did not use the patch, I used lozenges.  None of it is easy but can be done.  We all know the struggle.  I think this board is a major player in my quit.  They (I) will be here to help.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
