What Are They Thinking

I just read that here in our province they are thinking of allowing cigar lounges to smoke indoors . Of course with rules like good ventilation .. what a joke !

Wait what ! Is this not going in reverse ?

First they ban it now they want to allow it . A big can of worms just opened . Now pot smokers will want lounges, cigarette smokers , hookah users , vape users ? Who else ? A lot of money to be made in addiction .

Politics !

Big T is the culprit , I've no doubt . Money talks and people throw out good common sense for votes . Have you researched who Big T donates money to? Hush hush , politics isn't allowed on most sites , maybe that needs to change .

Maybe I'll be in trouble for this post .. if I've overstepped please moderators remove it , it is not my intention , only awareness is my intent .

We are also building a new hospital here . It was started before covid then it never went through ; they  stopped building .  Covid taught us some hard lessons .. well ....we will certainly need bigger ones for sure in the future and more and more life saving equipment too to try and save the lives of these folks .

I could go on , but I'll stop ....  I'm off to the mall for an AC walk lol

I won't stand by this decision our government is making without a voice . I don't want to see progress undone because . Our  kids lives and our grand children's lives are at stake .

Keep quit folks and let your voice be heard and not hushed .

Expose the truth , do your research and do more than just quit smoking . I will be. I hope you'll join me .

Big T uses people for profit .

Give a little by donation ah lol aren't they generous . It's not even a dent in their pocket book... and give it to the right people they make triple likely ten fold the money .. oh aren't they so nice to give the politicians . What's the price . They sure upped it since Drs .and movie stars and people caught on .

Aren't they just so caring about our youth giving us healthier and safer options . It is all it takes for them to take millions of dollars and lives . They care ? Really ?

Only our voices can make change but we have to do it together .  If we don't speak up say good bye world .

You post didn’t make clear if taxpayer money is being used to create these lounges or are they privately funded?  If the latter, that’s disappointing but I wouldn’t object

Is the local government rescinding existing smoking bans?   Or allowing a separate smoking lounge to exist.   If they are rescinding bans, I understand the outrage.

When I smoked, I used to love the underground smoking lounges, esp. in winter, with all the people puffing away, staring at the their phones or books or somehow managing to look somewhere while not meeting anyone's eyes.  You could sit in the room for 5 mins without lighting your cig and still get your fix.

Could it be because of the newly legalized cannabis?

I remember how upset I was when the laws were enacted that prohibited smoking in public buildings, including bars and restaurants. They were enacted to protect people from second hand smoke, and the dangers to public health.I hated to have to go outside to smoke, especially in winter. I lived on the east coast at the time, so it was really cold. Of course, there were exceptions to the law. Casinos could have designated smoking areas inside. Why? MONEY! The casinos didn’t want gamblers taking smoke breaks, when they could be losing yet more money at the tables. Industries with deep pockets will always find a way to fulfill their agenda. Greed will always win. Sad, but true. We could try to fight, but have little chance of winning any battles against the Tobacco Companies  or the Casinos. We simply don’t have the resources to wage such a fight, even though we know that morally, we are in the right.

Casino`s. The worst. Worked Las Vegas as a musician back in the late seventies until mid eighties. I smoked then but no need to light up. smoke filled and they even had complimentary smokes at the table games. A few tried non-smoking area`s but I don`t think they ever took hold. Suit I wore always stunk of smoke even though it was cleaned weekly. Nasty places as far as I`m concerned but to each his own. I hear venting has improved but like most things the money takes first place. They don`t build these places by people winning or being concerned about health.

All these companies that are highly addictive like gambling establishments Big Tobacco , alcohol etc . Ya and cannabis yes just legalized here . I ask .. who do these companies all donate money to ? Drs ? No , they've gone bigger .  Why  ?  Do the research . Do you know what other companies Big T owns ?

I am so glad I quit smoking , don't drink , don't gamble . I'm tired of throwing my money  into  " further the addiction pool " .

We can't rely on anyone , especially I think our governments to make this go away . They've been sucked in just as we have all been all these years . Money donated is money in the pocket ten fold .

Awareness and education widespread is key 🔑 and it needs to begin in schools with the very very young.

I was amazed but not surprised at what I've learned and continue to learn but for me it can't stop there .

@Abby, don’t make yourself crazy trying to save the world! It’s an impossible task. I do admire your passion, but you can’t fight multimillionaires, and win. It would be like David and Goliath, with the expected outcome, rather than the miraculous one. All we can do is keep our quits,  and stop giving Big T, the casinos and liquor industries OUR  money.

A little to late I agree , but saving two people instead of one through awareness is still better than none . Exposing the truth to my grandchildren speaks volumes to other young kids wanting to experiment . Its no harm done . Awareness matters . Thanks for your concern and compliment .

Anyone remember here Barb Tarbox .

Its worth a watch .

@Katgirl I could never do what this lady did , she helped many . Like you said all I can do is help myself , show areas where awareness can help others as I journey through my own quit and in turn that helps my kids and grandkids and hopefully others .

I dont know how Barb Tarbox found the strength but she had a passion I think .

Jesus, @Abby! That had me in tears! How awful for her! I hope she saved some kids from picking up cigarettes, and helped others quit. What a powerful video. I have to admit to not having watched any of the available videos on our site, because I knew they would just upset me. I am very sensitive. Also, I am committed to quitting, so don’t feel I need to see them. I know how bad smoking can be. It may be why I have cardiac issues. It may be why I have recurring Diverticulitis. I read recently that you are more susceptible to it, if you smoke. I only hope I have quit soon enough, that I have substantially more time to spend with my loved ones, before I leave this world. I hope that for all of us here….

She spoke to more than 50,000 students --her very last days were on cigarette packages both in Canada and the United States . Not sure that that type of packaging still exists as I don't buy cigarettes anymore . She  spoke to kids up to two weeks before she past . Her story and her courage lives on .

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
