icky throat

 Share

Recommended Posts

From prior experience, I know this is normal after quitting, but I have to vent and ask what others have done for it: My throat itches often and is phlegmy...My body is working through it by an annoying amount of coughing and throat clearing but ugh, can it be over already? I guess since I smoked for 35 years and vaped for another 4, its gonna take a while.

When vaping I have almost zero chest congestion (not saying its less harmful than smoking!!! Just that my body reacts differently to it) so I didnt expect this phlegmy itchy throat after quitting vaping!

I'm armed with cough drops and mints but any other suggestions are welcome.

Having lots of phlegm after quitting is normal for a lot of people who quit smoking as the tiny hairs that clean the lungs grow back and start working to right all the wrong we did. I would treat your symptoms like those of a common cold, which it could be too, and if symptoms get worse see your dr.

Hope you feel better soon

It's normal as you mentioned.  It reminds of the time when I had armed myself with cough drops and felt so bad when the cough wouldn't happen.  Those days my brain was foggy as well and I used to question if my quit was 'normal' if there was no cough.  Why wasn't my system going through the cleansing that everyone else seemed to go through.

I also felt bad about having wasted the money for cough drops.  So I think you're lucky to have the symptoms that I wasn't fortunate enough to have.

I never suffered a cough ...or phlegm......

This worried me at first because other quitters were coughing up the crap ...and I wasn't ....

Of course ...we are all different ..our bodies work different ....I've learnt that now ...

I had nothing to worry about ...

Good to see you're still on the train @idontsmoke! When you truly want something and it's worth fighting hard for, you get an extreme sense of pride when you accomplish your goal. Whether that be a daily, weekly or monthly goal so ..... keep fighting the good fight :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
