Hey hesteralumni23,

Smoking masks underlying issues that surface when we quit.  A lot of us have had to face it and eventually we do learn to do without the crutch.

Hope things work out for you.

You have the right idea and I think you'll succeed.  Smoking was the hardest thing for me to quit and it took me many attempts.  You will likely do it in less.

Changing yourself is always the most difficult thing a person can do.  To become something new requires some part of you to die.

You can't become a non-smoker without annihilating the identity of you as a smoker.

You want it both ways.  To be a non-smoker and occasionally going back to being a smoker, however briefly.

It looks to me a hi-wire act fraught with tension as you struggle to maintain a duality over an abyss of remorse and addiction.

Focus on what you want to be and move forward with it.  The rest is a distraction that will rob you of your dreams.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
