  1. I have confidence in my quit and estimate my chance of relapse is low still...addiction is a wily condition and I am human. Here are my four maneuvers to avert relapse, ( Think again, Get right with yourself, Contact an ally, Post an SOS ) and a slew of red flags... When you know better yet, are purposefully leading yourself astray ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you have tiny tempting smokey thoughts that you are nuturing by not dismissing immediately and aggressively ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ I won't get addicted this time ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Whenever you start to 'romance smoking' ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you seriously entertain the idea that smoking looks attractive or makes you feel carefree and part of the fun ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you are having silly thoughts like, my smoking friends are having a great time and I'm missing out ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you really wonder, what it would it taste like now, ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Will I still get that, 'ahhhh' feeling ? ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ When you start to think that you are 'different' and that you can handle just one. ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Do you think you can quit again without much effort? ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you want to give yourself permission for just one, once in a while, just this once ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you feel too secure in your quit and start to act cocky ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you propose to test your quit ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Are you starting to believe, you've been quit long enough to handle a puff or two? ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you know too much to get addicted again ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Whever you are doubting your commitment to your quit ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you ignore the reality that smoking is a terrifying choice with significant consequences ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ If you are dismissive of the fact that you can Never Take Another Puff, Not One Puff Ever. ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ I forgot the major red flag, I am not an addict ! ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ I'm an adult and I'll do wtf I want ! ~ think again, get right with yourself, contact an ally, post an SOS ~ Have you more red flags to add ? Different manuevers ?
  2. I didn't create a pre respond, because, I just saw that today & I'm in the middle of a craving. I have to admit, I had one cig yesterday. I know I should have posted here first. As I had mentioned when I joined, I only smoked a pack or less a week. It more of an indulgence for me. The other day, my voice became hoarse & was fading out. I don't know if it's smoking related, but, I'm sure it can irritate it. It came on suddenly. It wasn't gradual like some things. It would have been nice to have had a warning. I would have stopped then. The craving is partly mental, even more physical. The sensation I get in the middle of my chest which was satisfied after a few puffs. I long to have that relieved. I really want my voice strong again, though. Which is why I'm here & trying to fight it. Thanks for the support.
  3. I am new to this site & had my last cigarette a week ago today. I have smoked a half pack of cigarettes a day for 40 years. I was diagnosed in Summer of 2014 for Chronic Bronchitis & mild COPD. I finally wanted to quit smoking. So, a week ago I just did it. No planned date...just did it. I had tried to "cut down" in past month but if cigarettes were in the house I smoked them....so much for my vow to only have one a day. I have not had even one puff in 7 days. It has been hell even with the help of Nicorette gum. Every day I tell myself I am now a non smoker, but I have been feeling awful physically with cravings, insomnia, fatigue & depression. I DO NOT want to go through this ever again so I am committed to sticking with my decision to quit. I was SO tempted to buy a pack today....but I didn't. The gum & spray help but this is so hard. How long will this discomfort last? I have failed in my attempts to quit many times before but this time I have gone a whole 7 days without a sneak puff. I need help with willpower right now & have been reading the tips from others who have gone through the process to become ex smokers....or non smokers....that sounds even better! I know I need support. Thanks.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
