@overcome, I think its saying that we tend to "need" A smoke in unpleasant times giving us the sense that smoking will help us feel better. As the pleasant feelings wear off the want for a smoke returns hoping to get back to that pleasant place...

@Linda you dont need a lot of strength as long as you have commitment.
-
@Linda, you did it before so trust in yourself that you can do it again. And this time you'll value it so much more!

"Quitting is not for everyone."
That is only true if you give in to the addiction. ANYONE can quit smoking if they put in the effort and the self discipline needed.......

I'll say it again, still want to smoke?!

@Kris, I agree with @Gus in that volunteering at A senior center would really help you feel needed and give you the purpose you're looking for.
Here in California we have a program called CASA where you can volunteer to be an advocate for children. Another service you may find rewarding if there's something like that in Texas.
I hope your Dr can help you get the meds or therapy needed to feel better

@intoxicated yoda, it took me my whole first year. It was the same as if there was a death in my family. That's why I stuck close to my support. We even have a one year pledge pinned to the top of the main forum. We smoked for a lot of years so there's just no way that we can be over it even in a years time because there will always be "firsts" that will test you but the beauty is that they are much easier to swat away then when we first quit

I LOVE your analogy for your quit @intoxicated yoda

Yes, @JH63 Jeff, its just for that day which makes it much less daunting. And as the days added up it became easier and easier to NOPE. We even had fun with it and tried to be the first to NOPE each day

@JH63, thanks for your honesty. I just NOPED for the day my whole first year That's all I could commit to. That's why we make a new thread daily.
The One Year Pledge is a promise to yourself to stick close to the forum for your first year to ensure you have our support if you need us.

For all of us who might need it right now

I stumbled on to my first forum while googling my many quit symptoms. Each one I googled led to posts from people who had also been through it.
I lurked there for weeks before I got the courage to join and I haven't regretted it for one moment. And although that forum is long gone now, many of us made our way here and were welcomed with open arms.
Like @Mee, I've made lasting friendships, hers being one of them, with people all over the world. We've laughed, cried and supported each other as well as those that come after us.
That people who didn't know me were so open to offering me support when I needed it most and knew what I was going through at any given time that first year meant the world to me and the reason I'm still here paying it forward
