  1. I have read about this  issue since early on in my quit and it seems to be the number 1 issue threatening not only new quits but well established quits as well.

OK, you've been quit now for months or even years so what's the harm .... just one for old times sake! You can abstain easily right after that one! Oh, the posts I have read of people years into their quit who thew it all away by seducing themselves to have "just one"! Then after that, the agony and disappointment in realizing the truth of what they have lost. Complete devastation!  Back to square one!! What a shame. NEVER listen to that voice - not matter what.

  3. Yes, what M5 said ...... keep well hydrated, get lots of sleep because the early days can be exhausting and the deep breathing really helps with the anxiety you may experience in the early days. Anything but smoking!! Also, be sure to get rid of any smoking materials you may have around. If there are no smokes handy, you can't cave in during a particularly strong craving to smoke.  You have made the commitment so now .......... you are a Non-Smoker! Smoking is off the table for you now :)

  4. I had a bunch but everyone is different so you may or may not have the same ones. I found the "brain-fog" the most difficult to deal with because I just couldn't focus on much for the first while. The anxiety of the early quit was tough - just had to keep distracted and power through it. Actually, coming here almost 24-7 was what really helped me keep myself occupied. The beauty about all these quit symptoms is ... they don't last forever. The benefits of quitting WILL last forever and, they just keep adding up the longer you stay smoke free :)

  5. Welcome to Quit Train KT!!

The first days are difficult Kris but you CAN get through them. I too quit cold turkey, first attempt, just over a year ago and I am still quit and barely even think about smoking anymore. The nicotine will be out of your system in roughly 3 days but it's the retraining your brain to function properly without the smoking ritual that takes a long time. Please read all you can here on the board. There's a ton of information and videos to help educate you about this addiction.

Personal commitment, education and pledging daily in the Daily NOPE page are all key in keeping you on track. Stick close to the board for the next while. Take things just 1 hour, 1 day at a time. Don't look to far ahead. You are just quitting for today :)

  6. Welcome LQ! Glad to have you aboard. Take a seat here in 1st class and join in the discussions, the daily NOPE pledge and even play some games to keep yourself distracted. I think I almost lived on this form for the first while. I too quit cold turkey basically on a whim just over a year ago so YES it is possible. Personal commitment, educating yourself about this awful addiction and the support from others who "get it" will all be important tools in your quit journey.

  7. Hi Jane & welcome (officially) :) Make yourself at home, now that you're here. We are a smaller group than what you are used to but we're generally speaking a fun group and in the end we are here to help everyone wanting to put this awful addiction behind them and we love to share everyone's victories and milestones right along with them :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
