  1. Brewers are notorious for running out of gas and fading later on in the season, well, at least not making the playoffs anyway. Regardless of playing staff, these tendencies are sometimes hard to shake. Look at the Cubs (sorry Johnny) and even Boston years ago. They both could not win no matter what the player talent!

  2. ^^^ This is a big part of it too Doreen. The motions of smoking. They say it takes 3 days to flush nicotine from your body so why is it that they recommend you stick around a support group like this for longer than that? It's the psychological part of it that takes the biggest effort for the longest time to overcome. Breaking mental triggers that might be different season to season, adjusting to better use of your time because you are not puffing away on something. This is the biggest challenge to most smokers I believe :)

  3. I'm not sure the legal age change will do much on it's own. Look at all the stories around this site about when people started smoking and I think you'll find a lot of people were under age when they started. But I do think the combination of all the restrictions you listed above helps to tighten the noose around the neck of this industry of death so yeah ..... bring it on I say!

Cost of the product and feeling like a social outcast will do more to curb new smokers that anything else I think.

  4. I think the Canadian Swim Teams did pretty well last summer Olympics as well so yes, up and coming I expect.

The soccer scene here has been increasing a lot in the past 4 or 5 years too. Passionate fans and the fan base is growing all the time. Not surprising given the immigration to Canada over past decades. Footie is hugely popular everywhere other than Canada and USA and now, that seems to be changing. Perhaps that's why they awarded the games to North America recently? Grow the base by putting on the "big show" right in front of the market that is ripe for massive growth?

Have you tried to play in the cup? And don't blame the snow, Iceland made it.

Soccer (or football) is relatively new here in terms of professional sports. Canada has a men's team but they have never made whatever qualification standards there are. As the sport progresses, perhaps they will qualify one day? I expect they have their sights set on the next World Cup which will be played in North America. Most of the critical games will be played in the USA but there will be a couple of early round games played in both Mexico and Canada. 1st time ever for that :)

So there is a 50/50 chance that country who has never won the cup could win it.

So, you're saying Canada could still win this thing?  I mean, we have technically "'never won the cup".

Oh wait ....... that should have read; technically, we have never PLAYED in the cup!

  7. OK but it seems to me, from what I have learned about this whole footie thing recently, that this particular tournament has more often than not seem the favourites go down to defeat so that could bode well for who ever wins the England match up?

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
