  14. Driving in my car was a tough spot for me on my quit journey. I didn't smoke in my house, but I did smoke in my car so I immediately lit up when I got in the car. I started off with Blow Pops (which worked great), but, I was diagnosed with diabetes 8 months into my quit, so I had to come up with another plan. I love to sing in the car and I remembered that singing while smoking burnt the crap out of my throat so I burned a CD with 3 songs on it - 1. American Pie 2. Stairway To Heaven 3. Bohemian Rhapsody. So I would sing. Honestly, American Pie was normally all it took to get me past any massive craves, but there were the rare occasions I needed to sing longer so I was prepared. **I'm an old lady so these songs may not be relevant to some (any long songs will do)** Having a plan for different situations is very helpful. For newbies and those still struggling - You can do it - You will find strength you never knew you had, so dig deep - stay committed - Smoking Is Not An Option No Matter What Everyone here understands. Reach out. Talk about how you are doing - even on those bad days. Especially on those bad days! How are you doing? What are some of your plans that are working for you? KTQ

  21. LOL @beazel, love the image of your rocking out to Bohemian Rhapsody. (Bizmillah No!!) Driving wasn’t my trigger, but sitting out on my back porch was, still is. One thing I did to break the association was to sniff my butt jar - a nasty old mustard jar that I used to cram full of cigarette ends. It smelled totally foul, even to a smoker’s nose. Anyway, I kept it for about 6 mos and when I would get a strong craving I’d crack it open and take a whiff. Super gross, DIY aversion therapy. But now I’m thinking that serenading the squirrels might be the next thing to try.

  22. You are doing great, Kerry! It can be a slow process but leaving the vapes behind for 32 days is awesome. At some point you can work on leaving the gum but until then, stick with what you are doing. Getting the vapes out of your life is a great thing.

  25. Hi, @Kerry. Glad to hear you haven’t vaped in over a month, that’s wonderful! I, too, used NRT to support the early days of my quit. IMHO, anything that gets you to quit and stay quit is a good thing. Everybody is different, but for me the worst murder-craves subsided after I ended the NRT. It gets better! Hope your step-down to 2 mg goes well. Keep us posted and stay strong on that road to ultimate nicotine freedom.

  26. Hey @Kerry Nice to meet you! Im a fellow NRT user, but I use the patches! I have used the gum in previous quits, its funny how you get used to the awful taste haha! I couldnt be without the patches yet, they really help. Great work so far and see you around. Do you do the daily nope pledge? I find that very useful here, it just sets me up for the day, it means Not One Puff Ever.

  27. Don't feel that way @Kerry, there's no wrong way to quit our addiction so long as you have an exit plan to be off the nicotine gum, you're fine Lot's of members here have quit the same way, so no shame in that game

  28. Thank you @jillar sometimes i feel like a fake as I still need nicotine gum but don't intend to be on it for longer than necessary. I do not want to stop one bad habit and replace with another bad habit . So fingers crossed I can wean of the gum and onto just normal no nicotine gum .

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
