  8. I actually have read it. What I really need is a drill sergeant to B slap me upside the head and tell me to quit whining. "Are you freakin nuts? You got more red "didn't smoke" X's than anytime since your 20's and you are thinking of blowing it? Is there a gun to your head, are you being water boarded, being tortured in any way? If not, I suggest you think this through. Think about the $4000 that one cigarette will cost and the 7000 you will be required to smoke cause you know you have never summoned the courage and strength to try again in less than 1 year."

  10. Smoking addiction- Hi my name is Ace and i'm an addict. I choose to not smoke and each day for the rest of my life I will be required to make this decision. While that decision gets easier it never goes away I'll always be one puff away from being a smoker. Wish it were easy to drag someone to the train and push them on board i'd line up every smoker I loved

  18. Jerry has found a home. Wade and his girlfriend got him all cleaned up and took him to the vet; everything checked out well. Wade said Jerry has a weird habit of liking to sleep between the wall and the refrigerator. He also likes to chew on socks...Jerry the cat, not Wade. We got a bit attached to Jerry when we found him. We put together a care package for Jerry and sent it home with Wade. Jeff put some of those Slim Jim meat sticks in there for him, he said Jerry really likes those.

  19. Having some tough cravings this morning, so I thought I'd get on here to distract myself and talk about my favorite topic: Exercise. Many people wonder what to start with, should they join a gym, what's appropriate for their age, etc. You are blessed to have my wisdom here, as I would argue that I know what the single best exercise for everyone is regardless of age, condition, or ability. It's my rule #1 when it comes to exercise. Exercise Rule #1: The #1 best exercise for everyone is "the one they either like enough, or dislike so little, that they keep doing it". Any exercise that you are unwilling to keep doing will provide no benefit no matter how well planned or applicable it is for your needs. For years I would lift wts in a gym 3-4 months a year, get burnt out, then do nothing for about 9 months. I once liked working out in a gym, but it no longer appealed to me. So I kept quitting and restarting. What finally got me exercising consistently was to find something I enjoyed (and I now haven't missed a day of exercise in 3.5yrs). For me, that meant doing my workouts in the woods on a trail where I jog, do body wt exercises, lift and flip logs, throw large rocks, etc (and imagine I'm some kind of 60yr old Spartan). The point is, if you find something you like, you are much more likely to do it consistently. And consistency is the most important requirement of any exercise plan. If you are doing something you dread doing, you need to look for something else or you will eventually quit.

  21. That's great news. I remember one time when the vets told us Roscoe was a goner, he was groggy for a couple of days when he came home. He slept a lot and gradually ate more. After a few days, he was right back at it...just like nothing happened. So long as I'm reminiscing about Roscoe...I don't think he took a direct hit, but he was very close to something that was struck by lightning. Poor guy was soaking wet yet every hair on his body was standing straight up. I've never been able to read a dog's expression clearer than I was able to that day. His expression said: "what the hell was that?" Let's raise a toast to good dogs.

  23. Huge congratulations on one month down. I sometimes had really tough days right before big milestones. Not sure why, but I guess it's just more of the push and pull of addiction trying to turn a reason to celebrate into a reason to cave. Whatever the cause, the tough days do jump out at you and you just have to push through. For several months, I would plot all day at work on Fridays exactly how I would stop for a pack on the way home and just smoke my way through the weekend and then quit. I would picture the route I'd take and count down the minutes -- somehow I managed never to make that stop and continued to muddle through the first year. You've got this, Justin.

  29. @JustinHoot99, when I had days like that I used my JAC (jillars air cigarette). It worked great at tricking my mind into thinking it was getting the real thing. I just pretending I was holding a cigarette and went through the motions of "smoking" it. I couldn't believe how well it worked. Some people have used pens, cut straws, even licorice for theirs but I liked looking stupid lol Just another tool to add to your arsenal

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
