  2. If you want answers, see your doctor; request pulmonary function tests; request low dose cat scan (should be free); and in the meantime buy an oximeter (cheap and readily available) to track 02 levels during various activities. As Doreen noted, if nothing else you will be giving yourself some peace of mind. Priceless.

  14. Good news and bad news. The good news is that I ran 3 1/2 miles through my (hilly) neighborhood after work. It was tough and I'm a little sore this morning, but I did OK. The bad news is that I ate like a crazy person yesterday. Dinner was fine (homemade cabbage soup and vegan chiken nuggets), but then I just kept grazing all evening--gummy bears, crackers and peanut butter, ice cream, tortilla chips, etc. It's a little disappointing because, while the running seems to be going well, I absolutely know that it's impossible to outrun or outexercise a bad diet. I'll commit to more reasonable and disciplined eating today and a run of four miles at the park or canal.

  24. Agree with @Jordan7, get the ct scan for sure. I did not know until 3 months ago that most insurance covered it. It was 3 months ago I quit after showing beginning of emphysema. My cough was gone in just a few days. If I felt like you do I would want the full work up. Other things can contribute to breathing problems, allergies or even cardiac issues. Take care of yourself, you did not quit to get sick from something else. K

  29. I am really sad that you are going through this, Kate, but I'm also glad you keep committing to Not One Puff Ever. Smoking will only make things worse. I'm glad you opened up to what you are going through. I don't open up too much as to what I've gone through here but when I've struggled, I try to take comfort in that at least I finally quit smoking and kept the quit. I gain strength from that. It sounds like you keep coming back to that in your last few sentences. I'm glad you are resolute in staying smoke free despite what you are going through

  31. @Kate18, I'm so sorry you're feeling so down at the moment. We all go through similar and I've even brought out my JAC from time to time if needed. Surely learning Spanish so quickly isn't your only accomplishment. What about raising your kids? Or learning how to trade stocks? Not just anyone can do that and succeed. I'm really glad you have no plans to ruin your awesome quit, another great accomplishment, and you can realize that its your depression. And I'm glad you have Sofia to comfort you. I hope tomorrow is better for you.. ((hugs))

  32. Nicotine invades our minds and makes us think crazy dumb thoughts when it comes to quitting An opponent to be respected for sure, and one I never want to face again, although I am mightier

  33. @AceWhite, and I’m proud of myself for doing 6.7 mi on my Schwinn exercise bike, daily, at a moderate resistance level… It takes me 30 minutes, and seems hard. I am 70, though, so maybe I have a right to be proud. I really dread my daily workout, but have a feeling of accomplishment, when I finish.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
