  4. I am not sure again where or if this should be put on the site but I have two addictions clinic appointments this afternoon . I have secured a place to start and hold an in person support group to quit smoking with a different twist . This is a not for profit endeavour . My only aim is to help others quit . I am shooting for the start date of October 1 and facility is booked . Flyers , I've been working on and will be printed soon and that's what I'll be doing next is delivering them and posting them in hospitals , businesses, churches , etc . I quit dreaming the passion and took action . Thanks for listening , just wanted to share my excitement . Keep good thoughts flowing . Thanks .

  6. Good morning everyone! I haven't been on here since March, but I wanted to give everyone an update. I quit smoking on January 29th, 2021 and I am STILL smoke free! This coming Friday, I will be exactly 6 months smoke free. I'm truly excited about this. According to the app I have, I have saved about $1,153.10 USD so far, I have not smoked 3,548 cigarettes, and gained 44.5 days of life! I still have not had a single craving since the day that I quit. I don't understand it, but I'm so not going to question it. I have also spent time with 4 different friends that are smokers (2 at a time) and we hung out outside and they chained smoked. The most recent being this past Saturday. It smelled disgusting and I had to do my laundry when I got home because everything reeked to high heaven, but I never had a craving! To everyone just beginning their quite journey, you can absolutely do it! Stick with it and resist any urges you have to pick up a cigarette! Just keep reminding yourself why you quit in the first place. For me, it was definitely anxiety and covid related. I got severe, debilitating anxiety out of nowhere in December and part of that was fear of getting covid and dying. Since the pandemic is still a very real and current thing, I have absolutely no problem reminding myself why I quit. So find your reason, post reminders so it's always in your face, whatever helps. You got this!!!

  7. It’s great that you always eat healthy, @Doreensfree. I don’t have that kind of discipline, when it comes to food. I love sweets, fatty meats, and potatoes. I do exercise some restraint, and, of course, I exercise daily, in order to stave off weight gain.

  10. Just returned from Dick’s Sporting Goods, where I picked up, (not literally) a new treadmill. Amazon did not have the model I ultimately chose, and I saved $300.00, by letting them put it in the back of my SUV. Nordictrack charges $200.00 for delivery and Dick’s had it on sale. I paid an extra $80.00 to have a pro come out to assemble it. That will be next Wed., but I can wait. I did a lot of research on treadmills, before deciding on this midrange model. It comes with a free year of the Ifit program, which will give me access to personal online training programs. So, I did something good for myself and my health.

  13. You would have had to consume 1200 calories, in that one meal, to ensure the body continues to function properly. If less than 1200 calories, in that meal, you are potentially harming yourself. Many of us want to lose weight, but it’s important to do it safely. You can do research on the body’s minimum caloric requirements to verify what I’m telling you. Take care.

  17. The intermittent fasting I am familiar with does not limit you to one meal a day. You eat all your meals, 2, or 3 in an 8 hour period, then fast for sixteen hours. It doesn’t matter what 8 hour period you choose. you may have brunch at 11 AM, and finish dinner by 7 PM. This helps you burn fat. If you only eat one meal a day, your body will go into starvation mode and store fat, so not a good idea. This 16 hr fasting, 8 hour eating plan is a healthier way to utilize intermittent fasting technique.

  18. This works for me. I've been doing the meal window plan for the better part of three years now. I eat a good breakfast after my morning workout. I prefer working out in a fasted state. During the day, I will eat a very light lunch. More of a healthy snack. This afternoon I had a couple of turkey roll-ups. Dinner fluctuates from night-to-night, but I've been going a bit lighter of late. When the hot weather settles in, my appetite decreases. I've slimmed down a bit recently in spite of my workouts being slowed by an injury. Finding what works for you is the tough part. After that, it's smooth sailing.

  20. This is a type of fast that may work for you . One meal a day seems rather extravagant but now I forget what they call this but I've done this one . It is IF as well but not as extreme. Give yourself an eight hour window to eat and the rest of the time you fast . I think this is safest and most healthy as you do get your three meals in and snacks . Just incorperate all the food groups in that time frame . Keep your calories to what you should have . Check with your dr what calorie intake you should take in in a day . I lost fifty pounds by just not eating after six p.m. ( a nighttime comfort food eater ) doing this type of fast . Of course I think an excersise program is the best thing to add to any weight loss regimen . It doesn't have to be the gym it can even U tube workouts .

  21. Long term dietary changes are the best way to lose weight because it will last. Not the up and down that will drive you crazy. Allow yourself some indulgence`s but have a plan and stick to it. Exercise, walk whenever it is possible. Sleep on a regular basis as you need it. It is like quitting cigs, different for everyone except realistic goals can be reached if you apply the same determination as quitting. Consult a doctor if you have conflicting health problems. You need proper nutrition for all body functions to work.

  22. I have used an intermittent type fasting when I have diverticulitis flare ups. It is similar to a colonoscopy type fast except I do eat soft well cooked veggies in broth. It helps me through times and it is good for weight loss if that is your goal but as Katgirl mentioned you don`t get the nutrition in the long run.

  23. You cannot get the nutrition your body requires by eating only one meal. You may want to try the intermittent fasting technique I mentioned, instead.

  32. Well, no triathlon in my future, but I did get two 20 lap/ 25 minute each power walks in yesterday. It can get really hot here, in Summer, so I ordered a NordicTrack treadmill. It will be here Thursday. I also am going to go to Dick’s and get a set of dumbells. I may as well look good, as I lose weight, not that I look bad. But how cool would it be to be an old lady with a fabulous body?

  33. Good and bad experiences . I know of two people who lost tons of weight fast . Bp stabilized . Another lost ,went off it and gained it back and more . My recommendation . Talk to your doctor especially if you have other medical ailments . Some drs recommend its fine while others do not . Very understandable . My dr did not recommend it for me. Walk

  34. All 3 bands are still going pretty strong. My friend Mike works for X, so I've seen them a lot. I haven't seen Los Lobos or the Blasters since the mid 80s. I was in a punk band called the Angry Samoans from 1984-90. A lot of great shows back then.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
