  2. Just past 2 months quit, I basically just enjoy watching, reading, or doing something that makes me laugh and laugh. It surprised me how miserable of a person smoking had caused me to become. So I laugh. I set my steps to be a little lighter and jaunty. And I am content. Thank God. I am content.

  3. I collect mechanical wrist watches, an unusual hobby for a female, especially a heterosexual one, I imagine. I currently own about 50. So I spend a lot of time planning my next acquisition. That is how I will treat myself. The average amount I spend on a new watch is between $3-500.00. So I will keep looking at various Seikos or Hamiltons, until I find something I really want. Then , I will buy it. I have to space out my treats, because they can get a bit pricey.

  5. Post your reward for today. What did you do for yourself for making one more day? what’s the importance? First quitting is hard work. Real fudged at time’s especially when under six months. Not whole time so don’t be discouraged, just a ball buster here and there and here again. so why post? To remember to treat yourself. Sorry your non smoking friends aren’t going to reward you. It’s life, they may or may not really care. Or feel you should just do it and that’s the end of it. it’s not. It’s work and you get paid for completing it. Pay yourself. Big days- big rewards. Everyday something, even as small as a candy bar, extra cookie, comb, new finger nail polish. pack costing around $10 a day now, don’t have to spend it all, but your worth something. Can even be an activity which is free. Spend the time on yourself. so what’s it going to be today. Mine is some swimming pool time and a beer later. Closing on 9 years soon and bought our retirement home in Florida, still working but enjoying it today on vacation. PS. Yesterday was same thing but maybe a couple beers

  9. “Fear is our worst enemy” Fear can also be a great motivator! It was fear of having a heart attack that motivated me to put down the cigarettes. Fear of dying, before I finish my job, here on earth. I still have kids and grandkids who need me to guide them along their own paths in life. I want to be here for them, as long as God will allow. So, fear is not always a bad thing…

  11. I treated myself to a mani/pedi today...which I have been doing every three weeks or so since I quit. I get what is called "dip" which is like the gel manicure except your nails are dipped in powder....then magically the process turns into what you picked out from the samples you pick from! Since I am constantly gardening this really works for me...my nails always look perfect! But today I decided instead of the classic pedicure (which is great...includes exfoliation scrub, warm lotion, foot/leg massage, hot towels) I would go one step beyond and get all of the above and an aloe vera gel soak for the feet/toes. OMG....it was fabulous....the stuff she put in the basin turns into some kind of goopy gel that is warm and squishy and encases your feet/toes...it just felt great and it was only $5 extra! Before I quit, it seems I never had money for stuff like this on a regular schedule.

  12. Thats true , it čan go both ways . Thanks for pointing that out . My thought was there too lol but my post was getting long or I just forgot .. darn old agelol. Yup my reason to quit too , how could I forget , but in the beginning my fear was what stopped me from quitting only trying to quit and constantly giving up . When things got real serious then I did it . Thanks for adding to this .

  14. Fear is our worst enemy . It will have us procrastinate , it will have us doubting our ability , it will make us feel we are alone in this and that we can't possibly be strong enough . It will have us thinking things like we canT shame or embarrass ourselves if we don't make it the first try or give us feelings of anxiety . These things are normal thoughts when you think about quitting . Trust me ok we all understand . We don't know how or can we live life without them fifty years making , but I'm here to tell you , you can . Until you are stronger lean on everyone here who have been through and are going through and doing this .all of us had fears all of us started on day one , and personally I think of every day as day one and grateful . It's a new beginning every single morning . Every person here can help you until it gets easier . We are all at different stages of our quits and have experienced things we thought no one else did . We all help each other but you have to take the first step so when you are ready we are too . Read all this support . Quittrain works .

  15. Shut up and quit. Then post all the problems you want. Make all the complaints you need. you may be a dummy, but even dummies hold their breath underwater. 10,000 reason you can’t quit. 1 good reason to quit. Yourself. Lets go hillbilly. Tell yourself it’s over, been fun but now your done. it’s changed and no longer works for your life.

  17. We have all been there. It feels like IT has us by the balls, but we eventually discover that we feel happier and more peaceful without it.Smoking is actually an unnessary stressor. We do things a MILLION times better without it. Start with small steps. Starting today, buy a lower nicotine brand. To satisfy your hand to mouth gratification sip water or OJ out of a sippy bottle. Snack on grapes. The brain is powerful!! Set a date and every day tell yourself I will be free, I will be free, I will be free... Freedom will be mine on the (insert date) say it with conviction. Say your mantra at least 20 times per day in your head or out aloud. Look yourself in the mirror when you are at home. Look straight into your eyes, into your soul which only wants the best for you. Mean it with all your ♥ Best of luck. You've got this and we will be with you every step of the way xx

  21. This will sound odd but I'm most grateful for masks . They along with handwashing seem to have helped the flu this year . None have been reported where I live . I know I've not had one asthma attack because I have worn them outdoors both last year and this year . Of course being smoke free also helps . My copd exasperations are even less frequent because I've stayed away from colds and the sick in public . People because of covid are told to stay home if sick , please do it all the time It makes a difference . A simple cold in an ordinary person to an immune compromised person can mean death in some cases . Many immune compromised people with primary immune deficiency had to wear masks all the time before treatment was found to treat it with immunoglobulin ( blood plasma ) treatments . They need other peoples antibodies to fight disease and illness and to be front line warriors for them . Covid is a very real threat to everyone and not something to take lightly . I do however understand that right nowvaccines are a choice . I know some do not believe in vaccine for religious reasons or perhaps are allergic to ingredients that can cause anaphylaxis but that is just a small portion of the worlds population . I will continue to wear masks during spring and fall and in crowded places. I am immune compromised myself . I appreciate those who have gotten the vaccine because it protects adults teens , children land others who don't have an immune system like scig patients for example , ( remember David Vetter ) primary immunodeficiency patients or people with lowered immune system due to cancer , autoimmune disorders and a multitude of other diseases . I do have both shots now but we are not sure I'm protected or not . There are not enough studies done yet , but like my dr said some protection is better than none so by you getting your shot if your comfortable and can it helps protect others like those with immunodeficiency and high risk patients just a little bit more . We have got 50 per cent of our poplulation vaccinated . Our numbers of people contracting covid are going down which proves vaccinations , staying home, and taking responsibility works , but hospitalization in icu are still high here . We have to care for the child who has cancer , the teen who has been in a car accident , the son with a gun shot wound , the daughter needing life support from a simple fall , the grandma with heart blockage , grandpa with copd , auntie needing emergency surgery , uncles cousins who may need an emergency room or life saving oxygen . Lives matter beyond covid . Be kind , be considerate , be a good neighbor . Do what you can do . Take part in saving a life , be a smile and a joy , spread love , not covid .

  25. Been there, done that! I remember years ago, being in the Airport in Atlanta, and they had a smoking room. It had a white drop tile ceiling and the panels were all black, from the exhaled smoke of countless smokers. It was disgusting!

  26. Welcome aboard Reynjoe, the best decision you can make in your life is to quit smoking. I not going to lie and tell you it's easy because it's not. It is on the other hand 100% doable if you believe and have faith in yourself. I quit cold turkey just after the beginning of the pandemic and it has been just over a year quit for me. You must be 100% committed to your quit for any kind of success. So, pick a seat and enjoy the ride to a happier and healthier life.

  27. Just passed my 'personal best' of forty days, I'm up to forty three days and mostly doing well! My lungs are still not that good, but that's to be expected after 40+ years of polluting them, so I'm hoping things will improve there. I guess my main improvement is that my taste buds have been resurrected! Can't believe how delicious lots of foods taste now...I sure have been missing out all those years! Amazing......

  32. Thank you for the warm welcome and words of encouragement. I have a lot of exciting milestones ahead. My 13th grandchild is on the way, and I plan to fly to Japan to meet him, or her. I plan to fly to Philly in July to see another grandson, born during COVID, whom I have yet to meet. In December I will fly to Dallas, to spend Christmas with my only daughter, and 7 of my grandchildren. Best of all, I will have a travel buddy, my wonderful boyfriend, John, for all of these adventures. So, lots of good things coming up. Life is good, and even better without cigarettes…..

  37. Hey, Matt, as you know, there is no one size fits all approach. For me, who is doing this for the second time, cutting down first worked. I am a super logical thinker. I took a page from the people who use nicotine patches. They work by wearing a certain strength for a period of time, then gradually decreasing, until you need no patch. So I gradually weaned myself from cigarettes. When I got down to 7 a day, I stalled and kept smoking 7 a day, telling myself, ”I am a light smoker. This is fine.” Then there were days I would inch back up to 8 or 9. In the end, it was my Cardiologist and my boyfriend who convinced me. My cardiologist said it was the very best thing I could do for my heart. My boyfriend said he wants as many years with me as possible. So, in both cases, my heart was the reason I quit. So, down to 7-10 cigs a day, I smoked one at 8:00 PM a week ago Monday, and told myself, “this is the last one!” So far, it has been. Finding this group has been a bonus. Kat

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
