  2. I’ve had a real downer of a day. Really teary eyed. Not as bad as when I first quit, but still thankful that I didn’t have to be out in public. I don’t know if it’s the reduction of nicotine because I started the 7mg patch yesterday or because of everything else going on in my life. I’m sure it’s both. But I’m hoping for a brighter day tomorrow even though it’s supposed to be quite stormy. The weather affects my state of mind too. A lot going on, but smoking ain’t one of them!

  4. Thank you Abby. Side note I will eventually figure out how to properly use these boards I concentrating on the safe and sane thing right now. I could not of quit had I not found this place. For me this place has been a Godsend. The educational side of it. The experience of so many who have and are going through this, Absolutely invaluable to my quit and sanity! I have been able to borrow on that strength, courage and knowledge. I needed a place where I could say out loud....I not well and want to be. I going to be a life member here. To hold onto this and keep it. Today's good news for me was I only needed the inhaler they gave me once yesterday...once! That so much better than the every 4 hours I was doing.

  9. Best of luck to you. I used patches, from 21 mg to 7 mg. I didn't quit. I just wasn't over smoking. Then I found my Reason to Quit, and quit without patches. I wonder if there is a placebo effect to the patches. Is it the nicotine? I don't know. All I know is that when I found my Reason, I quit without a qualm, without the edginess that I experienced on the patches. But patches help some folks, so hang in there. If you really want to quit, you will.

  10. This is awesome Dianne be proud of yourself, you got this, 2 weeks in, its just like walking really one foot in front of the other, no need to run to the finish line, one minute, one second at a time if necessary, each footstep is a step in the right direction away from the addict, you are leaving it behind you and looking into the clear blue sky that isn't clouded with cigarette smoke or the smell of nicotine. So proud of you xx

  11. The benefits you gain by quitting far outnumber the challenges you face while quitting. Those benefits last a lifetime as well. The challenges are merely temporary. You're well on your way now Dianne

  17. Day 14 I feeling pretty good. It felt really good to go out to eat with family and not be "the smoker" who had to go out after the meal and light one up or light one before going in....or the second I got home....it felt really good to be a non-smoker today! I am glad I quit. I not going to make it sound like it has been easy. It has not and I know....I going to have to keep putting the work in. I know there will be bad days but today I am glad I am 2 weeks out from quitting and that I did it. Today it felt good to be a non-smoker!

  19. Hi Gus, my advice is to not try to stop the tears, I cried for days after quitting and still do sometimes. I read an article that states that quitting smoking can bring on symptoms similar to clinical depression and I'm sure that is true for some of us unfortunately. Don't know about you, but I'm worse (with depression) in the mornings and I think that first cigarette of the day used to sort of 'shock' my body and brain into alertness. But what an awful way to wake up with a cocktail of chemicals blasting through the brain and body! I try deep breathing in the mornings now, which sounds simple but it helps as I used to cough terribly after my first cigarette....after nearly one month I'm starting to feel my breath coming easier and it's a good feeling too. I have used a nicotine spray instead of a patch and that means I can use it when I feel an urge to smoke which may be a few times a day or not that often as things improve. I feel your pain Gus, but the benefits of being off the cigarettes start to accumulate. I am on day 28 but this is not my first quit but doing my best to make it my last! All the best to you.

  20. I hear you Gus. The emotions seems to lay just right there at the surface. It is beyond nerve wracking to feel like that. I keep going for short walks. Am sure my neighbors think I have flipped my mind, each time I burst out the door for a short walk lol...You got this! I hope a good night of sleep will help you wake refreshed to a new day!

  22. Two Statements pulled out of the posters context, both seemed ruff to the other poster ? Both just pointing out a truth that they felt needed to be aired in this public forum. Neither one was Nasty or demeaning, Neither one should be taken so seriously. It is a Fun and inspirational post, lets continue to have fun and be inspired by it and all the posts held there in. WHAT ABOUT SOME SLIGHTLY KNOWN FACTS ? DID YOU KNOW IT TAKES MORE MUSSLES TO FROWN THAT TO SMILE ? And what about this one: Those who can, "do" and those who can't, "preach" ??? or is it Teach? So I am going to relax my face Now

  27. I think guarding our quits is just something that serious quitters naturally do. We know the inherent danger being a nicotine addict. We've seen too many fall back to their slavery to nicotine just because they decided to have 'just one'. I know I have that natural instinct to be protective of what I built through my own quit but I don't really think about it consciously each day. I just do it ... every day. Kind of like getting dressed in the morning. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you newer quitters will end up in the same position if you persevere. A place where protecting your quit just comes naturally to you because you value your freedom from nicotine's control!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
