  4. Thanks all for the support. I was surprised when I found the cigarettes in the glove box as I did not smoke in my vehicle. Just occurred to me that another time wasting activity is gone. Pulling over to smoke. At any rate, looking forward to getting another day under my belt. The most important thing for me is always remember I cannot have just one, it don’t work that way for me. Most likely don’t work that way for most people I guess. Raining here, and that’s a good thing, we need it. So today, football and a few beers and hang out. Cheers

  5. I have spent this weekend going through boxes of paperwork going back to 2005! Since it is 32 degrees here now , instead of shredding it, going to throw it all into my outdoor firepit later today and watch it burn....while having a glass of pinot noir and maybe toast some marshmallows, too!

  8. Thinking about it is my deal too.....although it passes. Some days are worse than others. For me, Once I get past the morning, I will be good. I smoked way more in the morning than the rest of the day. I guess it’s not surprising that the further I get into the day, the less I think about smoking now. I just tell myself, fine I can think about it, just not going to do it!

  14. The problem with quitting is that its a passive process. The only thing we do, is, refrain. Its not an activity so much as a decision. When we first start this journey of abstinence, our brain and body ask us to smoke, to receive, the nicotine we've come to expect. So the decision not to smoke has to be made again and again. Maybe a hundred or more times a day during the first weeks. That's why it so important to stay engaged in activities, preferably social activities with non-smokers. If your doing something that occupies your attention, the frequency in which you have to reinforce your decision not to smoke, is also reduced. Avoid boredom and idleness. The moments you have to yourself are the moments you have to deal with yourself. After a few days of successful abstinence we start to acquire the tools that reinforce our decision. We realize that it CAN be done. That we ARE starting to feel a bit better. That we don't want to throw away the progress we've made. Stay clean long enough and we discover that abstinence and denial are not the punishment we have been enduring but the reward we sought. Stay strong.

  15. Linda, I am just shy of two weeks, so I like you are a rookie at this. With everything in pretty much lockdown don’t help. Not smoking and stuck at home can make one feel like you are in jail or something. I really don’t have cravings, I just think about it. If I have to, I will find something to do to occupy my mind. Or come on here....anything. Now I am to the point I would be really pissed at myself if I cave. I just don’t give myself any opportunity to smoke.....I guess I just wanted to say I am right there with ya...it ain’t easy....

  17. We were on autopilot when we smoked. Combine physical addiction, mental conditioning, and a series of rituals that we set up around getting our fix and you've got yourself something that really consumes your life. We were on autopilot when we smoked. Didn't really think about, we just smoked because that's what smokers do. Quitting smoking temporarily yanked us right out of our comfort zone. The thing about comfort zones is, they can turn into ruts.

  18. That's addiction @Linda and it happens to all of us. I literally thought about cigarettes 24/7 for easily the first month or two. I can still remember the first day I woke up and smoking wasn't on my mind, I even sang in the shower lol. So just trust us when we say its going to get better because its going to get so much better

  24. Llinda, I am a crafter. Crafting has gotten me through many difficult times in my life. There are so many groups on the computer and women anxious to teach you. Like this forum, I have made friends all over the world. Maybe you have some craft you would like to share with others. Yes this pandemic sucks. I am finding it very difficult, especially since the weather has gotten cold and we are spending more times indoors. Keep telling yourself that this too shall pass.

  26. Linda, you can rant, scream or even cry but don't smoke. I became addicted to this forum when I was quitting. I complained plenty and there was always someone who jumped in and helped me get through. We are here for you too. I promise it will become easier.

  34. I've finished up my international cultural enrichment program for the day. We're doing some work on a job with a group of contractors from Sweden. I was driving to the job site when one of the Swedes excitedly asked: "Is that the Waffle House?" "It's a Waffle House", I replied. Over lunch the subject of guns came up. They want me to take them to the range to shoot this weekend. Greasy food and guns...Welcome to America gentlemen.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
